I agree with you except I thought the writing was horrendous too. (See my review.) I wanted the crap beaten out of McEwan.
You are not alone in disliking the McEwan novel , as did several readers I admire in a local book discussion group but I liked it rather a lot. However, given that you normally rate most books so highly, I was particularly surprised at your assessment of "Saturday".
I just pulled this book out of the Little Free Library I'm standing in front of.... I'm going to put it back now!
Or perhaps John, you could read the book & actually decide for yourself(?)
THANK YOU! This was exactly my feeling. Why, oh why are they all so perfect and sooooo smug. I was rooting for the thugs. Eff that doctor and his stupid perfect offspring.
