Another interesting aspect I forgot was Voltaire writing about moving from the scientific community of France, where Descartes still ruled, to London, where Newtons theories were dominant, and how, depending on where you were, the entire structure of reality was utterly different, light having a 'speed' verses simply impregnating the air etc.
