Robert Roberts Any FARGO fans like myself? The new TV series starts Tuesday 11/21/23 on FX.

message 2: by Celia (new)

Celia Thanks, Robert. I will look for it. Was the movie based on a book?

message 3: by Robert (new)

Robert Roberts Not to my knowledge Celia, but this the television series and not really based on the movie either.

message 4: by Susan (new)

Susan Is it as violent as the movie?

I'm looking for a new series. I finished Reservation Dogs and The Other Two and they were both so great in different ways. I'm dipping into shows here and there, but haven't found anything I love yet.

message 5: by Robert (new)

Robert Roberts No the TV Fargo is not as violent as the movie. It is written and produced by the Cohen Brothers, the same one’s who produce Fargo the movie. One of the brothers is married to the actress Francis McDermott.

message 6: by Robert (new)

Robert Roberts I usually watch Investigative Discovery, Secrets of Oak Island, Dateline, 48 Hours, Skinwalker Ranch, FoxNews, Fargo and a movie now and then.

message 7: by Geraldine (new)

Geraldine i like "the gilded age" on hbo --the second season just came out.

Robert Roberts My favorite Christmas movies are Black Christmas 1974 a horror movie and A Christmas Story 1983 a whimsical comedy. Ironically they were both written and directed by the same guy Benjamin Robert Clark. Also the comedy Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase 1989 by some other guy.

I took your recommendation to heart and watched season one. What a clever (albeit violent) show! I'm excited to continue, though we somehow lost our TV remote this past weekend.

We watched A Christmas Story with my dad several years ago, and it immediately became one of my favorites because of his reaction. He was born in 1930 and so was almost exactly Ralphie's age. I never saw him enjoy a movie so much! He giggled so many times while watching it.

Have you been to the house and museum in Cleveland OH? It's pretty fun.

Yes.

message 12: by Robert (new)

Robert Roberts Oh no the Fargo series ended last night. The finally ended, but it was awesome!

message 13: by gwen graves (new)

gwen graves I watch mostly Britbox , don't care for American tv. some of the older ones, like law and order or sch are fine. The reason I like Britbox is when they do a series from a book the characters are like the novel, storylines the same or sometimes a little different. American tv makes the characters completely different, example Rizzoli and Isles. They are totally frivolous. Britbox example Vera, she acts and looks like the character in the book.

message 14: by gwen graves (new)

gwen graves SVU, not sch my iPad decided to change it.

message 15: by SHARON (new)

SHARON HALL I love Netflix. I have been binging on Harlan Coben's Collections. They are 8 episodes for each book selected. So far I have watched Fool Me Once, Safe, The Stranger, and Stay Close. They are action packed, keeps you all in waiting to see what will happen next. They are hard to stop watching them. I am totally enjoying them.

message 16: by Deb (new)

Deb I Love the Fargo series! I think that they have been progressively more dark than the movie but a little annoyed by the “Minnesota accent “ thing, makes us out to be a bunch of hicks! Not true, dark things happen everywhere! I hope they keep the series going but I think that I will rewatch the previous seasons, they stream on Hulu by the way.

message 17: by Robert (new)

Robert Roberts Deb I once watched a movie called The Long Riders. It was about the James Gang outlaws that went from Missouri up to North Field, Minnesota to rob a bank. They referred to Minnesotans as Square Heads. What’s up with that?

message 18: by Robert (new)

Robert Roberts New series of America’s Most Wanted premiers tonight on FOX at 7:00 pm CST

message 19: by Deb (new)

Deb Hey Robert, not sure about that term but guessing that it means rube, or something like that.

message 20: by Robert (new)

Robert Roberts I assumed it referred to the square shaped faces of Norwegian ancestry.

message 21: by Deb (new)

Deb Ha! Maybe.😆😆

message 22: by Susan (new)

Susan We started watching the new season of True Detective. So good! But I feel like I need to go back and rewatch each episode to catch everything that's going on.

Kellie Robert wrote: "My favorite Christmas movies are Black Christmas 1974 a horror movie and A Christmas Story 1983 a whimsical comedy. Ironically they were both written and directed by the same guy Benjamin Robert Cl..."

OMG! My favorite Christmas movie is A Christmas Story 1983 too. Did you see the sequel they made, A Christmas Story Christmas? It really wasn't that bad.

I also love National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation & several versions of A Christmas Carol.

message 24: by LauraBee (new)

LauraBee We have been enjoying The Gilded Age on HBO, and The Crown. I also love True Detective (at least the first season) and am looking forward to the newest season. It’s good to see Jodie Foster again.

I recently started Loudermilk which is a fairly darkish comedy featuring Ron Livingston as a recovery counselor.

And yes, I’ve discovered Three Pines on Prime. It’s a fairly decent adaptation of Louise Penny’s Inspector Gamache series. Alfred Molina plays Gamache, the other actors are, for me, unknown character actors, maybe most of them are better known to Canadian audiences. But it’s well produced and isn’t sanitized, which I prefer. For those who know, there is one specific character who has a pretty big potty mouth, and in this, she’s allowed to let it fly.

I hardly ever watch network TV, and haven’t for ages.

I would get BritBox, except we pay plenty for a bunch of services already, so it’s not high on the list of things to pay for.

message 25: by Deb (new)

Deb I Loved Three Pines! I wish they would do another season, Louise Penny wrote a whole series with Inspector Gamache character, and Alfred Molina was perfect for that role!! I read Madness of Crowds a few months ago! Very Good!!

message 26: by Deb (new)

Deb I just looked up if there will be a season 2 of Three Pines, unfortunately not! Dang!!

message 27: by Scout (new)

Scout I've enjoyed the Louise Penny books and liked the series. I usually enjoy the programs on Masterpiece Mystery, and I'm looking forward to a new season of All Creatures Great and Small.

MaryJo Dawson Scout wrote: "I've enjoyed the Louise Penny books and liked the series. I usually enjoy the programs on Masterpiece Mystery, and I'm looking forward to a new season of All Creatures Great and Small."

So am I! I've read all of Herriot's books so of course know this presentation of All Creatures Great and Small doesn't follow the stories - as the series about 35 years ago did to some extent.
But they have maintained the flavor and the feeling of the time period so well, and given the main characters personalities that closely resemble the original ones too. So we enjoy it.

message 29: by Scout (new)

Scout It's such an escape from the world we live in, although the characters face many of the same challenges we do. Do you have any recommendations for something to watch?

message 30: by Joyce (new)

Joyce Geraldine wrote: "i like "the gilded age" on hbo --the second season just came out."

I love the Gilded Age!

message 31: by Joyce (new)

Joyce Susan wrote: "Robert wrote: "My favorite Christmas movies are Black Christmas 1974 a horror movie and A Christmas Story 1983 a whimsical comedy. Ironically they were both written and directed by the same guy Ben..."

My dad took me to see A Christmas Story at the movies when it first came out. Now it is my tradition to watch it on Christmas Eve.

message 32: by Scout (new)

Scout I just watched and enjoyed the movie A Complete Unknown about Bob Dylan.

message 33: by Randall (new)

Randall Moore I saw it too and thoroughly enjoyed it. During the end credits I turned to my wife and said it was a nostalgia-palooza. Since seeing it I’ve dreamed of music from era that wasn’t in the movie, only hinted at. I’d forgotten much of that time only to have it rush out of my subconscious and make itself known again.

message 34: by Scout (new)

Scout They did a great job recreating the atmosphere of the time. Did you know that the actor who played Dylan actually learned to play the harmonica and guitar the way he did, and he also sang all the songs. I thought that was amazing and took courage, since Dylan still lives and has high standards. I came home and listened to a couple of early albums from my high school years.

message 35: by Randall (new)

Randall Moore I watch movies to the end and saw that all the actors sang and performed the songs. I’ve read several articles that described the process. Incredible performances by the entire cast.

message 36: by Rhonda (new)

Rhonda Joyce wrote: "Geraldine wrote: "i like "the gilded age" on hbo --the second season just came out."

I love the Gilded Age!"

Same, already watched season two. You will love it. They are working on season three.

message 37: by Geraldine (new)

Geraldine Looking forward to season 3. It really resonates!

message 38: by Robert (new)

Robert Roberts Today’s movies and TV shows are so bad and boring, I just listen to music instead of watching any of them. Maybe I’m just getting old.

message 39: by Randall (new)

Randall Moore We saw Flight Risk yesterday and found it to be an exciting locked room thriller. Mark Wahlberg plays against type as a villain. Directed by Mel Gibson who has an impressive number of films under his belt. The critical backlash against both these men is regrettable, despite Gibson bringing it on himself. I thought his Oscar nominated Heartbreak Ridge would have bought him some measure of forgiveness. While Flight Risk is a small movie, its fast pace and subplots come together at the end, delivering an effective and satisfying flick.

message 40: by Robert (new)

Robert Roberts They're gutter trash!

message 41: by Randall (new)

Randall Moore I’m over award shows. I don’t remember the last time I watched. Maybe it’s because I’m old or maybe it’s because these cultural moments lack resonance with me. Maybe it’s because I don’t like being lectured by people with questionable morals. It’s no surprise that they continue to appeal to prurient interests. I get it. I’m still interested in that aspect of life even though there are avenues that get you there a lot quicker without the ceaseless preening.

message 42: by Robert (new)

Robert Roberts I have watched the tv show The Curse of Oak Island since it started years ago. If they do not find the treasure this year I'm done with it. I can't imagine whatever they find could be more valuable compared to what they have spent looking for it!

message 43: by Kellie (new)

Kellie Ruth wrote: "And don’t get me started on the Grammys. One “singer” showed up completely naked."

I'm so done with awards shows. All they do is use it for their own political platform. No one cares. You are there because of your singing or acting. I do not watch them anymore

message 44: by Kellie (new)

Kellie Robert wrote: "I have watched the tv show The Curse of Oak Island since it started years ago. If they do not find the treasure this year I'm done with it. I can't imagine whatever they find could be more valuable..."

I haven't watched that show. What's it about?

message 45: by Geraldine (new)

Geraldine Watched “His 3 Daughters “. I’m kind of going through the same thing now: I and my 2 sisters are dealing with the end of life time now with my mother, who is 98.
I could relate.

message 46: by Scout (new)

Scout I'll look for it. I'm going through the same thing with my parents who are 93.

message 47: by Rosie (new)

Rosie We have been waiting for 18 months for 1923 to come back, finally. But we watched a good movie last night. 8 triple 6 about the Black women regiment in WWII that took care of the mail, that had been a disaster.

message 48: by Robert (new)

Robert Roberts If you are a fan like me of the TV show Skinwalker Ranch, the new season starts June 2, 2025.

message 49: by Robert (new)

Robert Roberts I like how they investigate aerial phenomenon with scientific facts rather than BS.

message 50: by Robert (new)

Robert Roberts Objects flying in and out of a solid mesa on camera is hard to dispute. The ranch may be a portal to an alternate universe, which Albert Einstein claimed to exist. We will stay tuned.
