Glory In Death Buddy Read - Feb. 2016 (Spoiler Zone) > Likes and Comments
Are you ready for more?! Glory In Death - Starting Feb. 1! This will become a spoiler zone on Feb. 10. *Please remember to use spoiler tags for any discussion containing information that comes from books beyond book #2.
I am a bit behind on things...I am just finishing up an audiobook and hope to start Naked in Death and catch up on the discussion...I am still aiming to read Glory in Feb!
I know all about being behind, Kris! lol No problem. Looking forward to your thoughts on both books.
I'll be reading Glory In Death on Feb. 1, even with the new one, Brotherhood In Death coming out on Feb. 2. I want to take my time reading Brotherhood & savor it! :) Not sure when I'll start it. Meantime, I can't wait to jump into Glory In Death again. I love these first 3 books!
The whole time I was reading NID I was thinking how Eve was before Peabody came into the picture. And by that I mean she was really a one woman show that the difference with Peabody there is remarkable.
Yes, there is so much difference, Michelle. I tried to read NID through new eyes...and soak up the "solo" Eve - the Eve before she lets so many others into her inner circle. It's really interesting when you know the history of the entire series to go back and read that first book again. I'm excited for new readers to meet & get to know Peabody (& some of the others they will soon meet).

That first book is really interesting.ive often wondered if it was the norm, to work solo. (view spoiler)
Good point, Michelle. I also needed the reminder that Feeney was there with her from book 1. Don't know why I didn't remember that from one of my previous readings...or why I had never paid any attention to that. This more focused buddy read is drawing my attention to things I just hadn't thought much about previously.Looking forward to reading Glory. I hope to start on Monday. I'm going ahead & reading it next, even with Brotherhood coming out on Tuesday. I'm not in a huge hurry to read Brotherhood for some reason - maybe because I know I'll just be waiting for another "next one" after I read it! lol We'll see how long I can hold off!
I am gonna wait to start Glory until after Brotherhood. I can't wait because the synopsis of that one is making me very excited. And it is being released early enough in the month that I'll finish it and still have enough time to re-read & discuss Glory.
I think I will be reading this one first, then probably Brotherhood after. Not sure if I will end up doing a book in between to cleanse the brain from the massive time skip that will be!

This go round we are really dissecting. I'm also surprised at what I'm disco in or more like saying I knew that but just forgot somehow.
Also I remember saying The last time with the buddy read I'll read them when we get there in the series. That might be years away.lol. Not sure what I'll be doing. Anyway I think I'll be starting later in the week. Just got to finish a book to complete a series.
Put a hold on this one at the library. One person in line ahead of me so I should have it sometime this month.
I was able to sit and read 1 chapter so far. Hopefully more time later to red more then that! So much already, but doesnt read as an overload either. already mentions of Eve, the murder, Whitney, Whitney's wife, Roarke, reporters, candy stashed in a drawer, Caffeine, Eve's feelings towards relationships and having people in her life.

Mara wrote: "I suspect that everyone in squad is in on it, but I maybe wrong."After 40 books that's my take as well loll
Close to the beginning of this book we find Eve in the Blue Squirrel listening to Mavis singing. Does anyone else imagine her singing described in this book to be like that singer in Fifth Element?

I'm over 1/2 way through my reread and am looking forward to the 10th when we can openly discuss. This one is special!

Looking forward to it, especially as a buddy read! My first time with any of these books....
Charlene wrote: "Michelle wrote: "The whole time I was reading NID I was thinking how Eve was before Peabody came into the picture. It's actually quite a "rediscovery" for me to realize some of these things even though I've been through the series twice before and read the first 3 books numerous times.
It's not a spoiler to say that Peabody (introduced as a street cop in Glory In Death) is a character that will show great development throughout the series. She becomes one of my favorites.
Just a quick reminder/reference of some of the things we are tracking during our buddy reads:1. Major Events Occurring
2. Milestone Moments
3. Character Introduction/Growth/Relationship Development/Impact on Case/Book/Series
4. Mystery/Police Procedural/Case/Villain
5. Eve’s Metaphors
6. Futuristic Elements
7. Candy Thief Shenanigans
I just started reading it...I'm only a chapter through but the excitement's already building and it's hard to choose between reading and sleeping.. :p
I finished this book because I couldn't wait to read it after I finished the first one. Now I have to wait for nearly a week to discuss. Will hang onto library copy so I can refresh my short-term memory!Yes -- Chapter Nine, after the earlier gutting experience....
Hello ladies. Things are calming down at work so I'm hoping I will have more time to participate. I'm also setting up my notifications again. Don't know what happened.Starting Glory tonight. I'll be ready for the discussions.

I'll hold my thoughts until the 10th.

So glad to have you back, Sharon!
I finished. I'm going to post a thought with a spoiler because it has to do with later books in the series. Though i dont think it would spoil much if you havent read past this book be warned about clicking the spoiler tag!(view spoiler)
Vera wrote: "I finished. I'm going to post a thought with a spoiler because it has to do with later books in the series. I don't think Eve spent as much time watching old movies as Roarke but she did watch some shows. Also she would pick up on some of the references just from being a police officer.
okay I couldn't wait anymore Soviet started. Apologies it a spoil something. Observation : I love how there are these small things that creep in about he future. Like “genetic testing often weeded out the more violent hereditary traits before they could bloom" yet murder still happens.

I could be totally wrong or partially right. I shall see through this reread what it might be that nags at me with it.
♑Namita♑ wrote: "I love Peabody!!! She is brilliant and I'm glad that she becomes part of Eve's team."Peabody is awesome! She is one of my favorite characters from the series. I'm so glad that she develops into a major character as the series progresses.
Charlene wrote: "Michelle wrote: "The whole time I was reading NID I was thinking how Eve was before Peabody came into the picture. I really enjoyed the first one but this second book is so good I can't put it down...

Synopsis:
It is 2058, New York City. In a world where technology can reveal the darkest of secrets, there's only one place to hide a crime of passion-in the heart.
Even in the mid-twenty-first century, during a time when genetic testing usually weeds out any violent hereditary traits before they can take over, murder still happens. The first victim is found lying on a sidewalk in the rain. The second is murdered in her own apartment building. Police Lieutenant Eve Dallas has no problem finding connections between the two crimes. Both victims were beautiful and highly successful women. Their glamorous lives and loves were the talk of the city. And their intimate relations with men of great power and wealth provide Eve with a long list of suspects -- including her own lover, Roarke.
