Wow, thank you so much, Adam! I really appreciate that! The book obviously did a lot for me, and I'm really happy that it worked for you too.
Thanks again, Adam, and have a great day! :-)

What an awesome visual! I'm still laughing...

You've got me convinced, Bob, or at least managed to keep me away from the mini-series for a while. The dome is interesting, sure, but it's the characters that make the story. The dome is just the crucible to bind the characters together. That's why I wasn't as fixated on the ending as some others were. It was all about the characters' interactions, their journeys. Not figuring out where the floating box came from.
Wow, this review is seriously so good! A few months ago I started to read this book, but I never finished it. Since then I couldn't find the courage to start again, but this convinced me completely! Thank you!

That's so kind of you, Melissa! Thank you! It's just one guy's opinion, of course, but I really loved it. It did take a little while to get me totally under its spell, but once it did…wow. I just loved it.
Great review, man.
I like the cast on the show, and haven't dared to pick up the book yet. I guess I have to add it to my reading list for 2014. I have to read Doctor Sleep first.
Thank you for your input on this book. I have also read many of King's books. I wanted to see if this one is worth the read and you convinced me to pick it up. I just finished doctor sleep and it was awesome. Looking forward to this book.

Sorry about the delayed response, Randice. I love The Shining and have Doctor Sleep but haven't yet read it. Your recommendation makes me want to read it sooner, however! :-)
I lack the ability to clearly articulate my feelings for this book, but I wholeheartedly support your review of this epic novel. Thank you for your clarity if articulating my impressions so clearly.
Dena wrote: "I lack the ability to clearly articulate my feelings for this book, but I wholeheartedly support your review of this epic novel. Thank you for your clarity if articulating my impressions so clearly."
Thanks YOU, Dena. That was very kind of you! It's great to meet a fellow fan of this marvelous book. :-)
Your review was perfect. It was a little like a well written short story, but you need space to describe a 1300 page book!
Russell, that was so very kind of you. I already appreciate it. And I'm glad your experience was as positive as mine. It took me longer to get through than it took you, but it sounds like you loved it every bit as much as I did. :-)
Thanks again, Russell, and sorry about the delay in responding. It has been a crazy summer! :-)
I died!!! "And then there's Under the Dome. This novel catapulted my entire body into the air, propelled it through the window in a maelstrom of shattered glass, and sent it tumbling and broken into the lawn. Then, when I staggered to my feet, the darn book rose up from my bedroom floor, blasted through the window, and flattened me again." hahaha loved this review! I've been reading a lot of hate comments about this book (which I just started reading today), but I am still positive that I'm gonna love it just as I love whatever SK writes! Kudos for the AMAZING review!

:-) Thank you so much, Grace. I love Mr. King's work and hope you enjoy UNDER THE DOME as much as I did.
Absolutely agree wholeheartedly with your review of this fantastic book, Jonathan. I am a devout constant reader, and currently I am revisiting his mammoth backlog. Just as an aside, I decided to read The Dead Zone next and I am glad to see that you think so highly of that one. I barely remember it, so I can't wait to ddig in. I sort of dreaded reading it again because so many people have panned it, but our taste in all things King are similar.
Adam, you and I are DEFINITELY on the same page regarding King. On his worst day, he writes better books than almost any writer I've ever read. I do love The Dead Zone. I think it's a masterpiece.
Amazing review! It was a very intense reading for me... I had to take breaks to recover emotionally. The part in which Sammy is raped made cry so hard I had to stop reading that day. I didn't like the ending to be honest. Not because it wasn't good, but because I refuse to accept that something so random caused so much pain.
Outstanding review. Made me even more excited to read this book than I already was. BTW, House of Skin is sitting on my nightstand to be read soon (or maybe not so soon depending how long this thing takes me to read)
Anca wrote: "Amazing review! It was a very intense reading for me... I had to take breaks to recover emotionally. The part in which Sammy is raped made cry so hard I had to stop reading that day. I didn't like ..."
Thank you, Anca. Yes, that part with Sammy is really difficult to read. And the ending is definitely divisive, so you're not alone in that regard.
Thanks again!

So sorry about the delay, Robjr73. I somehow missed this comment. Thanks for the kind words, and if you do get around to reading HoS, I hope you dig it. Thanks again! :-)
If you liked this you should read the series he stole the idea from. The Gone series by Michael Grant. The first book was published more than a year before Kings book, and the books have a quote from King about how much he loved the series. It’s a YA series, but it has very mature subject matter. The Dome comes down and everyone over 15 disappears. Food quickly runs out, kids start to develop weird powers, and something dark and evil lurks underground. It’s better than this in my opinion.
Erica wrote: "Nice job with the over-10 paragraph review."
Nice job with the under-ten-word response.
Erica wrote: "Yes, and had to do a lot of comment-deleting!"
Wait. Is this the Erica I've met in person? (Sorry your account got hacked either way-that's really frustrating!)
Erica wrote: "I don’t think we’ve met in person!"
Ah, okay. Sorry if that sounded creepy. Anyway, have a good one, and sorry you got hacked. I had that happen on FB and it was so annoying. Peace!
A review certainly worthy of the work it describes! While I'm one of those who doesn't particularly care for the ending, Under the Dome (whiich also happens to be my only signed by Stephen King book) still remains in my top 10 (Needful Things is my hands down favorite), for many of the reasons you've so eloquently stated. I also happen to own the series, and though it doesn't even come close to capturing all of the wonderful elements of the novel, I still appreciate it for what it is.

Stick with that thought and avoid the series. One of their biggest mistakes was in trying to make the show about the dome, instead of the people trapped inside. It became one of those mystery-driven shows, à la Lost, where the writers tried harder and harder each week to make the dome (what is it, where did it come from, why is it there) the center of attention.
