CarolG Excellent review Tina. I've been trying to get into this one and appreciate your review. Now I know it's not just me. I need to finish up a couple of others and then hopefully I can concentrate on this one.

message 11: by Canadian Jen (new)

Canadian Jen I do enjoy a tudor era one too. An intriguing review, Tina!

message 12: by Dutchie (new)

Dutchie This sounds super intriguing. That’s a shame about the pacing and length but I’m glad you still enjoyed it. Terrific review!💕

Jayme C (Brunetteslikebookstoo) A very fair review! Hope you love your next!

message 14: by Srivalli (new)

Srivalli (Semi-Hiatus) Ah, a historian writing a fictional work. They tend to add all the research data into the plot, which overloads the narration. Still, it is a good premise, and I'm glad you liked it. Great review, Tina. 💞

message 15: by Darla (new)

Darla Terrific review, Tina. Your insights give us a look into this new read. Sounds like the history overshadowed the plot. Hard to balance when the author is so enthused about the research.

Tina Thanks Emma Catherine and Ceecee ❤️‍🩹

Tina Thanks Lisa and Maureen❣️

Yes, and I'm glad to hear it wasn't just me. It's such a great premise but there's just too much spoon feeding I think. It took me awhile to finish it as well.

Yes me too but unfortunately it didn't hit all the right marks for me....

I think you hit the mark on that one!!!

message 24: by Teresa (new)

Teresa Nice review Tina! If it's a debut maybe the author will learn from reviews to tighten things up in other books.

message 25: by Krystal (new)

Krystal Thoughtful review, Tina!💛

message 26: by Nora (new)

Nora Currie Wonderful review, Tina! So happy that this book is intriguing and a debut by a historian too!

Shelley's Book Nook I often wonder why historical fiction writers use the two timeline format. 99% of the time I enjoy the older timeline more and wish the book was ony abut that. Fabulous review, Tina. 🤗💕

Yes the older timeline is usually almost always better but I do enjoy that format a lot when done the right way!

Rosh I am beginning to be wary of historians who turn historical fiction writers; they are so passionate about the subject that they don't know when to stop with the historical info and write a more novel-like story. I think I'll skip this after reading your excellent review, Tina. 💖
