QNPoohBear Oh no! There can't be anything better than Emma Thompson's fabulous and funny screen play and Ang Lee's beautiful direction, even if the actors are old. Even my dad can follow the story and understand it and finds it funny.

Jan Z I think casting a MUCH younger actress for Elinor would be an improvement. All I could think about was how old she looked.

Oh no! Emma Thompson was great! They were all "too old" except Kate Winslet and the little girl playing Margaret. Plus Emma Thompson met her husband and now their daughter is following in their footsteps.

Anyway, the new film was expected to arrive in theaters in September but is now slated for October.

Is that Marianne or Elinor? No other photos so far.

Jan Z There can be. She was 35, looked 40 playing a 19 year old Elinor.

Who cares when she got the story right and she's such a fantastic actor and a true Janeite? The whole cast is perfect along with the screenplay. I never hear anyone complain Alan Rickman was too old to play Col. Brandon or Severus Snape.

Jan Z He was definitely too old for Brandon. I have no idea how old Snape is supposed to be.

33-38 years old, the same age Harry's mum would have been if she had survived.

Jan Z My kids love the books. Harry's mother wad a young mom!

Mel Dunay I think Emma Thompson did a great job adapting S&S into a script, but I didn't care for the directing of the film even at the time and I've soured on most of the performances over the years (still like Harriet Walter, Hugh Laurie, the little girl playing Margaret, and to some extent Rickman). I've liked the look of the few stills I've seen from the 2026 version, and feel like the actors are well-cast. Don't know enough about the writer and director to have much of an opinion.
