Thai I am so glad that you made this post and comment regarding the book. When I first read the word man, I love almost every moment of it except some of the side characters, I could not care at all. Even the second book of the nightfall saga, I could not see myself enjoying the series at all the whole idea behind Olive and her picking a gender just frustrated me so much it takes away the important aspect of a character.
I would’ve been totally fine if she was just a normal girl.
But again, I feel like the character development just felt short and boring and bland.
Arlen Bales to me, felt very relatable authentic as well and the way it ended was a chefs kiss.

So I think I will finish the series despite knowing that I’ll be a bit disappointed, but I’ll try to keep an open mind on these things

Peter Fair review, though if I had ended things with Hidden Queen, those other storylines would have still remained mostly open. This scenery shift was in the works for a decade, and a lot of readers were asking for it. Happy to answer all your questions about where everyone ended up if you like. The answers are canon, if not on the page.

Kat Janečková I felt a bit same way. I fell in love with the world when reading painted man and came to enjoy Olive and Darin a lot, but I missed the other characters from nightfall saga and from demon cycle. Would have enjoyed part of the book back in the Hollow and also a longer homecoming and seeing more of Darin and Rojvah. I’d also very much like to know where everybody ended up and how Alagai Ka defeated Jardir, Renna and Leesha in the first book. But overall I did enjoy the new scenery and the new concept of living in the Hive.
