Richard In reaction to this novel, Henry Fielding wrote An Apology for the Life of Mrs. Shamela Andrews and Joseph Andrews.

Matthew I took an entire class just on CLARISSA, and I can assure you, you lucked out having only to read PAMELA!

Robin Tell-Drake Pamela was the hit of the day, though. This is much of what Fielding was actually responding to: there was merch going on, people were buying Pamela-themed stationery sets and whatnot, it was a whole phenom.
