Randy Harmelink Train To Busan -- Best zombie movie in recent years.

Mad Max: Fury Road -- Disappointing sequel to a great franchise.

Me Before You -- A heart-breaker. Emilia Clarke has such an expressive face with those eyebrows (you may know her as Daenerys Targaryen). She's hired as a caretaker for a quadriplegic.

Jazmin The Wailing on Netflix

Erin Shimmer Lake, a Netflix original movie.

message 4: by Anita (last edited Jun 16, 2017 02:57AM) (new)

Anita Went to the theater and saw Wonder Woman. Great flick.

But I'm normally a big horror/zombie movie fan, especially cheesy B-movie types. Just caught a great one called Zombie Boy, it was super cheesy and hilarious. Horrible acting by everybody except the guy that played Zombie Boy, and I loved every minute of it LOL.

Erie I watched a few really good horror movies on netflix last weekend:

Backcountry
Beyond the Gates
Creep
The Midnight Meat Train
Train to Busan (one of the best zombie movies i've ever seen)
We Are Still Here

I also watched Split but its not available on Netflix.

message 6: by Bryndís (new)

Bryndís Thanks to all HA member's great recommendations I spent the past two months watching great movies (and still a lot left to go throught, so jay!)

I especially liked: "We Are Still Here", Train to Busan (thanks to Erin, it's already mentioned here a few times as well. I loved this one the most of all), The Conjuring (thanks to Wendy) and The Others (thanks to Rafael)

((but also saw: "Creep", Shadow of the Vampire, He Never Died, Videodrome, REC, Dawn of the Dead, V/H/S, Sixth Sense, Silence of the Lambs and Trick 'r Treat ))

message 7: by Randy (new)

Randy Harmelink > He Never Died

I'm fascinated by that one. I've watched it several times. Henry Rollins was wonderful.

(view spoiler)

message 8: by Marie (new)

Marie I just watched Jeepers Creepers 2 the other day. Waiting for the third one to come out. :)

message 9: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan I watched 'Logan' the movie last night. Quite a depressing depiction of a near future were people are either obsessed by glittering gambling palaces or working as corporate/statist mercenaries.

All I can say is the Wolverine should have joined up with Magneto in the early days...

The early movies for X-Men were the best - like the first 3 - after that it seems that the movies kind of went downhill and to me the rest of them are flops. lol

DYING to see the third installment!! Cannot wait. Oh, and Jeepers Creepers 4 was announced..."

Cool! That will make us happy because hopefully they will release them back to back! :)

message 12: by Mixofsunandcloud (new)

Mixofsunandcloud I watched Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. I'd read the book first and there were... differences. Overall, I think it held up though.

message 13: by Erie (new)

Erie Creep was really good! They're making three of them. Creep 2, the second part of the trilogy, is due out this year!

Thanks for letting me know! I will be on the look-out for it.

message 14: by Randy (new)

Randy Harmelink Infini -- Bad "infection" movie. Rated 4/10.

Elevator Girl -- Enjoyable little romance movie from Hallmark. Rated 6/10.

Jen from Quebec :0) I actually just watched the 1993 movie ALIVE based on the book, and the real life events of the plane crash of an entire rugby team in the Andes mountains...Forgot that it starred Ethan Hawke! --Jen from Quebec :0)

David Brian Joshua wrote: "Finally got around to watching A Cure for Wellness. Not exactly what I expected."

We just watched this at the weekend. I went into it blind, knowing nothing at all about the movie. Overall, it was a decent watch.

We also watched a French film titled Evolution by Lucile Hadžihalilović. The pacing of the movie was glacial, and it also carried disturbing undertones.

In fact, if you switched out the cast and crew, swapping the gender of the director, and exchanging the adult female cast and young boys for adult males and little girls, I'm of the mind this film would be getting plenty of attention. Uncomfortable viewing.

message 20: by Justin (new)

Justin I saw Lights Out recently. Decent movie with creepy horror but my only issue was the ending was predictable, not bad but just an ending you totally saw coming.

message 21: by Randy (new)

Randy Harmelink A while back I watched Don't Blink on Amazon Prime. I loved the premise, but not where it ended up. Plus, I use closed captioning, and about an hour and 15 minutes into the movie, they started showing up on screen 5 seconds ahead of the sounds/dialog.

message 22: by Justin (new)

Justin I haven't but I'll check it out

David Brian Troy wrote: "Changed it up last night with an action film: Hardcore Henry. Mindless fun. Relentless from beginning to end. Feels like you're in a video game with the first person perspective."

I've tried watching this twice, so far. I've yet to make it past the fifteen minute mark, but I guess I'll get there in the end. :)

message 24: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer My partner and I are working through the horror series again (Friday 18th, Nightmare on Elm Street and Halloween done upto now), and we've just finished Scream,

We watched Scream 4 last time. My partner loves them. I like them, especially 1 and 4 but for some reason my mind wanders when I watch them. Sometimes the killer(s) seem a bit far fetched whilst others are pretty obvious.

Weirdly I could remember one of the killers from 4 and boyfriend remembered the other,

We're not sure what series to do next.

message 25: by Erin (new)

Erin Get Out

I would put this in the "okay" category, there were some parts that were creepy but I expected more considering the amount of good reviews I read about it.

message 26: by WendyB (new)

WendyB The Girl With All The Gifts

It was good and it kept pretty close to the book.

message 27: by jb (new)

jb Byrkit National Lampoons Vacation (to Wally World)

message 28: by S.J. (new)

S.J. Romero Transformers: last knight. Not a horror movie, but it was almost horrific in its jumbled, make-no-sense storytelling. I had a low bar going in, but the movie dropped below that. Still, my two teen boys liked it so maybe catch a matinee or wait to rent.

We decided on Hellraiser as we have the first 3 on dvd. The plot isn't the best but the special effects are pretty good.

I Know What You Did Last Summer is on the to-do list.

message 30: by Justin (new)

Justin Just saw Don't Breathe, it was pretty good. Wasn't disappointed by the ending and it was quite enjoyable.

message 31: by Erin (new)

Erin Strayed

A foreign found footage horror movie. I thought it was decent.

message 32: by Steve (new)

Steve Parcell Transformers - The Last Knight. I thought it was very poor. At least Mark Wahlberg was decent but what was Anthony Hopkins doing in this? Totally weird and unconvincing character. The storyline and plot has so many holes in it, you could drive a warship through it. Attempts at humour were cringeworthy. At one stage I was wondering who were the good guys and the bad guys. But not as much as I wondered why my backside was numb and what I was doing watching this garbage! Avoid like the plague!

message 33: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Hellraiser 2. Great special effects but a terrible film overall. Pinhead (and the other Cenobites) is a complete wuss, and Kirsty seems to forget all about her father.

Dr Cenobite had some dreadful one liners, he just wouldn't stop "The whole of your life is...behind you!", "Surgery is open", eurgh

We're going to give the next one a watch, but don't think we'll make it through all of them. Lifes too short to waste!

message 34: by Gianfranco (new)

Gianfranco Mancini "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter"... Ugh. It was really bad. I'm going to watch "Resident Evil: Vendetta" soon. Luckly the cgi movie series is far better than the live action one.

message 35: by Mehmet (new)

Mehmet Jennifer the Hellraiser series gets progressively worse as it goes on. I watched them all. Hellraiser inferno is the better of the sequels in my opinion.

message 36: by Mehmet (new)

Mehmet the last movie i watched was The Mummy. Went to the cinema with my friend.

message 37: by Anne (w/ an E) (last edited Jun 26, 2017 06:34PM) (new)

Anne (w/ an E) The Sixth Sense. It is a very good movie and I love the twist at the end!

message 38: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Mehmet wrote: "Jennifer the Hellraiser series gets progressively worse as it goes on. I watched them all. Hellraiser inferno is the better of the sequels in my opinion."

We had to jump off that disaster train after watching the third last night. We spent the majority of the film discussing how awful it was, and how fantastic the episode of Twin Peaks we'd just watched was.

I feel like a quitter for giving up on them, but I just can't endure them anymore!

message 39: by David (new)

Great fun!

Don't feel like a quitter. Mehmet is right, they are awful. Compounded by the fact that after the third or fourth one they weren't even Hellraiser stories. They were just spec scripts the producers had that weren't related to Hellraiser in any way, but they dumped the cenobites into them and tried to make some money.

message 41: by Erin (new)

Erin Gianfranco wrote: ""Resident Evil: The Final Chapter"... Ugh. It was really bad. I'm going to watch "Resident Evil: Vendetta" soon. Luckly the cgi movie series is far better than the live action one."

I felt the same way about the final movie. It's too bad because I liked the franchise, it deserved a better final movie then that.

message 42: by Anita (new)

Anita Watched a good, ,gritty indie drama called Detour. Synopsis is "A young law student blindly enters into a pact with a man who offers to kill his stepfather, whom he feels is responsible for the accident that sent his mother into a coma."

I'm really enjoying watching Tye Sheridan grow into his own as a man and as an actor, definitely looking forward to seeing more of his work in the coming years.

Laurie (barksbooks) Dolls from 1987 and it was quite a lot of fun. It was about two a-holes and a little girl whose car gets stuck in the mud and take shelter in a creepy old mansion. Bad things happen to people who totally deserve them.

message 44: by Randy (new)

Randy Harmelink Just watched Viral (2016) on NetFlix. Not great, but I enjoyed it (6/10). An "infection" type apocalypse following a couple of teenage sisters.

message 48: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer We've definitely given up on Hellraiser. The more we talked about it then more nonsense the last one was. The first was alright but it went downhill quickly.

We watched Sleepaway Camp last night. It was pretty good but that final scene was just bizarre. It actually made me laugh out loud. The campers seemed like realistic kids and Angela and Ricky were well cast. The rest of the "series"is supposed to be awful so we're not going to bother with them.

The night before we watched the original My Bloody Valentine. The killer in that one was pretty obvious and the characters a bit annoying but it was still a fun watch. I think we had an uncut version because when it went to the killing scenes the picture was a bit fuzzier and brighter. The deaths were really good though, pretty realistic for those days. I'm surprised it didn't get any sequels. We haven't seen the newer version as it was 3d and it doesn't work on my partner, but we might grab the dvd to see what it's like.

I think Prom Night and possible Black Christmas is up next.

message 49: by WendyB (new)

WendyB Watched "2012" for like the tenth time and it just hit me how incredibly unfair the powers-that-be were to the average person. They refused to tell people about the impending apocalypse. How are people supposed to finish the books they're reading if they don't know time is short and the world is ending around them? In whatever time I had left in that situation, I'd be really really pissed off. harrumph...

I think you underestimate the chaos that would follow such an announcement.
