Thank you, Renee! ☺️ It was a fascinating and well-researched book!
Can totally admit to my own morbid curiosity here. This regime collapsing in a literal concrete tomb is such a claustrophobic vibe. ... And you have def nudged me to queue up Downfall! ... Great review, Rowan! :-)
Terrific review, Rowan. Although I've previously come across the story that Speer wanted to assassinate Hitler......the man's limited history with the truth makes me doubt the veracity of his claim.

Thank you, Leslye! ☺️ Morbid curiosity often gets the better of me! Haha But it paid off this time and I learned plenty. I hope you 'enjoy' watching Downfall sometime!
Ooh, morbid curiosity sounds about right for this book! A fascinating topic indeed! Good to see it does justice to the topic. Wonderful review, Rowan! :)

Thank you, David! I agree with you. The more I have learned about Speer, the less I seem to believe his testimonies.

They certainly had difficulty with destroying that bunker complex, Julio!

Thank you for your kind words, Mickaela ❤️ Such an interesting read - albeit understandably bleak! Need to rewatch Downfall now.

I read a similar book many years ago but can't remember the title. Your fine review has me looking for this one and based on your thoughts, I probably will remember the title!!

I'm curious what one it was, Jill! The author references a couple of books. This was definitely an intriguing read! Fascinating, albeit morbid part of the war.
I will have to search through my home library to see if I still have it. What books did the author reference........that might jog my memory.

The author talked about Pietro Guido rediscovering the bunker, and how he used three main sources to triangulate the positions - Speer (1969), Inside the Third Reich (1979) and The Berlin Bunker (1975) by James O'Donnell. There's an extensive list of references at the end too, which also lists Inside Hitler's Bunker by Joachim Fest.
Rowan, thank you for this incredible review about Hitlers demise. I never knew definitively since there are so many varying accounts. Sounds like a standout. Glad you had an impressive read. = )

Thank you, Mary-Lisa! ☺️ Certainly an intriguing part of history.
Brilliant review Rowan. I think everyone is fascinated by Hitler because of how evil he was! How could someone engineer the things he did.

Thank you for your kind words, Teresa. He was truly evil! I must admit finding it satisfying to read about his downfall.
Wow---another stunning review by you, Rowan. I really appreciated reading it since I know I won't read such a book. Fascinating! I learn so much from your reviews.

Thank you for your kind words, Elizabeth! ☺️ I'm glad that you're able to gain something from my reviews. I love yours too! You put many great books on my radar.
I recently watched a few WWII documentaries. This book sounds like I would really enjoy it too. Well enjoy might not be the right word. But those last few days in the bunker... I cannot imagine what is what like. Especially what the Goebbels did. I'm a mom myself and I could not imagine doing that.

It was such a fascinating read, Kealyn ☺️ I’m often watching WWII documentaries. This book gave quite a detailed account of those final days in the bunker. The Goebbels were so evil. Hard to wrap your head around it. So many of those high-ranking Nazis were next level delusional, right to the end.
