S. R. Ahmad Modern readers have access to an enormous number of books. New titles appear constantly, recommendations are everywhere, and many people set ambitious reading goals each year.
In some ways this is wonderful. Access to knowledge and ideas has never been easier.
But it also raises an interesting question.
When people move quickly from one book to another, do they always have enough time to reflect on what they have read?
Some thinkers have suggested that understanding often requires slower processes such as reflection, comparison of ideas, and revisiting difficult concepts.
If reading becomes too fast or too continuous, it might be possible to accumulate information without fully integrating it into deeper understanding.
Do you think reading many books improves understanding, or can it sometimes reduce the depth with which we process ideas?
I’m curious how readers here experience this.
