Dan Barnett Trying to think of longer books I can read my son (6) at bedtime.

We've had The Twits and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Both of those have gone down well.

Trying to think of what to read next and of course, my mind has gone blank!

Thought I'd put the question to the Goodreads hivemind. No specific criteria, other than being age appropriate.

noe you could try other books by dahl (my favorite growing up was the witches, but also the bgf is good). One of my favorites also was the cat who came in off the roof by annie schmidt. if you want to go more into classics then i guess alice's adventures in woderland and the wonderful wizard of oz are really good.

Dan Barnett Ibwas thinking of Alice in Wonderland. I was trying to remember how old I was when I read it. Probably older than 6 but I'm sure there are some good abridged for younger readers.

Nerski I'd recommend for a kid that small Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH by Robert C. O'Brien, the movie made a few changes and the visuals are maybe a little scary for a kid under 8 but the book should be okay. It's about a little mouse who isn't able to move her tiny house when their field is about to be plowed because her son is sick and goes in search of help, a very nice story about the power of kindness.

The Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis, it's an oldie and a goodie, I think my little sister was about that age when I started reading it to her, the first five in particular are very good.
