I read this a long time ago when I read everything she wrote. Her books are so visceral they are difficult to forget....or to reread.

What an interesting comment, Diane--I know you're right about difficult to forget, but hadn't experienced the difficulty re-reading yet. Makes sense, but also makes me a bit sad. I'll have to take my time with the last of her work I still have to read!

I'm glad to hear that, Jennifer--thank you. Sometimes the most special books are the most difficult to write about. Enjoy it whenever you get to it!
I appreciated much about this novel as well. Morrison was a master at character development and timely intense social commentary. If you have not read The Bluest Eye I recommend it highly. It is my favorite by her.cheers!

Thank you, Richard--she certainly was a master. I have read the Bluest Eye, but it's been a while and I'm looking forward to a re-read. Glad to know it's your favorite!
Now here is a Morrison novel that hasn't landed on my list yet. I intend to read all of her work eventually. This is a superb review, Kathleen :)

Thank you Candi--I have the same goal. You'll appreciate this one whenever you get to it!
Thanks for sharing a very insightful review.
I've found that to appreciate Morrison, it helps to be in a highly receptive state of mind.
I'll put this one on my "consider it" list.
