This is a thread to just chat on, talk about anything with people who are up live. We ask that you maintain TOS and the group "expectations" but other than that. Have fun, and talk about what ever.

There's all ways this one too! (I've posted it already, but, I like it sooo much! Here -->: IT<-- is.
And for more trivial fun... if you listen really closely you can hear Nimoy singing a song as he drives.. it's this one...
(view spoiler)
Did you ever listen to any of Nimoy's albums? Marg was given one by her parents for Xmas since she loved Star Trek. We listened to it - once.

and of course, when ever there is a scary mystery in the world of Pop Culture Science Fiction Television, I always turn to the Zen MastersSheldon and the Gang on Shatner
Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to everyone in the group who celebrates those days, and a happy new year to all in 2016!Amber, to answer your question of a year and a half (or more) ago --you can tell I don't check out this thread very often; sorry!-- I read quite a bit of both fantasy and supernatural fiction. (I prefer the latter term rather than "horror" --some of it is horrific, but not all of it is.)
My understanding of the procedure for this group is that, whenever we share a review of a book that's not already on the group bookshelf, we're supposed to add it there. Has that been changed at some point? I've been noticing that I seem to be the only person adding books there; and when I did some checking recently, it turns out that (except for a few authors adding their own books) I'm the only person who's done so since January 2014!
The Pirate Ghost wrote: "There's no changes. It's not a requirement but it I certainly appreciated."In that case, Hugh, I'll continue to do it!
**Important message from GoodreadsPrivate messaging (between users) will be down for approximately 2 hours tonight starting at 8:00 p.m. Pacific time. It should last no longer than 2 hours (though we're hoping it will actually be less time than that), so please don't panic if you can't send/receive messages during this time. We'll do our best to make sure this is as short as possible.
I have another question to put to our moderators. In the past, I've always assumed that this group was for sharing, not only the reviews we've posted since we joined the group, but all of those we posted on Goodreads prior to joining this group as well. But that's not explicitly stated anywhere; and it occurred to me tonight that my assumption might be all wet. :-) So, I'm posing the question: what exactly IS the official view on that point? (I've posted several of my pre-BREX reviews here since I've joined; but come to think of it, I don't know for sure that anyone else has!)

Its for sharing reviews, as a means of opening discussion on good books. The age of the review doesn't matter.
Thanks, Hugh. That's always been the way I've looked at it, but it's nice to have a confirmation! :-)
Barb and I have been blessed with another grandchild! Emory Michael was born around five o'clock yesterday afternoon, and both mother and baby are doing fine. We haven't seen him yet, but we'll be bringing the other grandchildren to meet him and visit Deborah later this afternoon. While their parents are still staying at the hospital, we've been taking care of the them (and will be continuing to at least through tomorrow), which requires me to spend the night at their house. So that's why I haven't been online as much as usual this weekend (and will continue not to be for at least a day or two).
Starting at roughly 2:00 p.m. tomorrow, I'll be mostly offline for about three weeks (and don't expect to read much, or at all, during that time, either). Our oldest daughter and her husband will be visiting us from Australia, and bringing our newest grandchild (who'll be a year old on March 29) with them; so we want to spend all the time we possibly can with them. But though I don't expect to be posting, I do hope to at least check my Goodreads updates periodically (so they don't pile up too formidably), and I'll be thinking of you all!
In the U.S., Nov. 11 is commemorated as Veteran's Day (formerly called Armistice Day, being the anniversary of the armistice that ended the fighting in World War I). It's not a glorification of war, but a time to remember and honor the men and women who have had to be involved in wars, as part of the armed services, to defend the lives, safety and freedom of their people, or those who serve or served in the armed forces in peacetime in the hope of deterring wars.To all those who have served in this way, I want to say, thank you for your service. (And though this is a U.S. holiday, I say the same to all those in other countries who have served in the same spirit.)
Today, I'm carrying a fever (low, but it's unusual for me to have one at all), and fighting a sore throat and cough. There's no reason to automatically jump to the conclusion that it's coronavirus; but I do expect to be mostly offline for the next little while. But I hope to be back with you all very soon!
Thanks, Debbie! Surprisingly, although my fever has risen as of the last time I took my temperature, I'm actually feeling better than I did this morning. My throat's not sore at the moment, and I'm not congested, so I've felt well enough to get back online. :-) I'm taking strong doses of "cat's claw" (a tree bark that boosts the immune system), and gargled with Listerine this morning.
Marco would tell you to chew a clove of garlic and gargle with that. He swears garlic cures everything. It certainly seems to work for him, but I have never tried it. I never liked the faces he made when he used it. lol
Well, I was running a very slight fever when I got up yesterday morning, which rose through the day (though 99.4 was the highest it ever got, before I went to bed; my temperature is nearly normal today), and to cut to the chase, the test shows that I do have COVID-19. (Thankfully, at least as yet, Barb does not.) So I need to quarantine here at home through Dec. 9. However, it appears to be a mild case that's not life-threatening, and I actually feel pretty well. During the day, I'm quarantining in my home office; I have access to my PC, and to books, so things aren't nearly as bad as they could be.
Test results not totally unexpected, but still scary, I'm sure. Get plenty of rest and hope you feel much better soon, Werner! Keep us posted.
I've recently been made aware of a GoFundMe campaign started earlier this year by a young woman, with multiple disabilities, whose post-college employment search was negatively impacted by the pandemic, and who has serious financial difficulties as a result of being without much income for several months. (She now has a job, but won't be paid until January.) I'm not soliciting donations on her behalf (though I believe her need to be a legitimate one), but I did promise to share the link to her GoFundMe page, here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/covid-era-... . You can check it out if you're interested.
Hi. I'm Cynthia. I'm a writer. I can't help it. It's an addiction. It took six years to accept my addiction. I can't help it. I just love the thrill of doing research on a topic of my liking. After I collect enough data, I start to outline the story, and then the actual writing start. I write from one to four, between 1,500 to 4,500 words. Once I complete a chapter, I read it back and start rewriting. So, how to get rid of this addiction? Is there a writer's anonymous group? Just kidding. I hope everyone is doing OK? Stay safe!
Hi, Cynthia! You might want to introduce yourself on this thread: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... , since that's where most of us look for introductions from new members!
By way of an update with some good news, my quarantine period ended last night, and I was re-tested and pronounced virus-free earlier today. So I'm no longer on the sick list! Barb's quarantine period will continue at least through Dec. 13, so we need to keep on isolating from each other here in the house; but if she's well enough by Dec. 14, she'll be re-tested then. I'm very thankful to have come through this experience as well as I did, and I want to express my heartfelt sympathy to those who continue to have side effects, or who have lost family members to this scourge.

I'm glad, relieved and thankful to be able to let everybody know that Barb tested negative for COVID earlier today. So, we can now both put our quarantining behind us, and get back to a more normal life (or at least as normal as things get in this very abnormal year!). Thanks to everyone for all of the kind concern, thoughts and prayers so many have extended over the past two weeks!
