Amazing how time and experience can change how the same words affect us.
I hope Vatican II from 1962-1965 that led to future changes in the Catechism, and LBJ's 1964 Civil Rights Act both helped in that a book would not be written like this today. I will take your word for it and not read it. It sounds terrible.
Chris, absolutely. Sarah, it was eye opening for me about how far things have changed in the religious world I grew up in as opposed to today, but it made me wince a bunch of times.
