Lovely review. Ive been hesitant to read it after my love affair with The Line Of Beauty.

Thanks. My impression is that many who have read both books agree this one is not nearly as good. That's not to say it isn't worth reading if the story is one you'd find interesting. The earlier book, in my opinion, really "nailed" a particular period of Britain's history like nothing else many of us have read. The later book doesn't, and to be fair it seems to me that is not its aim.
I attempted reading this but the narrative failed to engage..glad you made your way through it
