Let’s say it right away, nostalgia is not only about missing something.
It pays us a sudden visit, arrives without knocking, and says:
“Look, you were like this, and in some way you still are.”
Answer, even just mentally, one or more of these questions:
1. What is a tiny thing from your past that would make you smile right away today? Maybe a gaffe, a song, a smell, a phrase you used to say all the time.
2. If nostalgia had a taste, would it be sweeter or more bitter? And what taste would it be, exactly?
3. Is there a version of your past self you would sometimes like to invite to dinner, just to ask “How did you manage to get through that thing that happened to you?” (the one you are thinking of).
You do not have to write everything.
But if you feel like typing something here, we would love that.
And let’s say it clearly, nostalgia is not trying to keep us stuck in the past.
It only wants to remind us that we have truly lived.
Have a lovely evening, and gentle memories to you all!
