I'm really not sure because those are all genres I pretty much never read 🫣 but I did write a post on my blog recently about things I'd like to see in Christian fiction, if that helps!
a) friends to lovers!!!! enemies to lovers is basically the only trope i see in fantasy and it's so annoying 😭
b) i don't read much romance, but can I say friends to lovers again? 😁 i just love friends to lovers 🤭
c) not existing 😌 jk it's fine i just rly dont like dystopian 😭
Romance: having the mmcs be less broody (let’s just get rid of the tall dark and handsome cliche all together). I want a happy go lucky mmc that isn’t tall or dark and maybe he’s a nerd who likes to read books, with a simple name like Kevin or Carl or sumthin 😭 like not every guy is blindly handsome, it’s what’s on the inside that counts!
Dystopian: GET RID OF THE FMCS PLEASE i’m so so so so so sick of the exact same character with a different name and hair color. I need a mmc in a dystopian, and he doenst have a secret skill with a bow or a knife he’s just ordinary 😭
fantasy: again let’s get rid of the girl boss fmcs, i want a girl who likes bows and pink and tea parties, but can also hold her own. It’s okay to have a feminine fmc yall. It’s okay for her to need the help of a man and depend on him.
and also in fantasy, i really hate the enemies to lovers trope 😭 like it’s so overused in that genre, why can’t we have a boy next door romance in fantasy???
@Finch Ok, so it’s crazy, but almost everything you said is what I’m writing in two different books (I don’t write straight up romance, but I do have a romance in my book)
My sci fi fantasy book has a male main character who isn’t broody, who isn’t blindly handsome (he’s just an average dude concerning looks). He’s a nerd who likes to draw and read books and tell stories and take care of dragons. Though horrible things happened to him, he always tries to look to the bright side, for his ma and his little siblings
My fmc is, though tough and coarse because of her sadistic father, is still girly. She still maintains her femininity. She enjoys dresses and bows and looking nice and flowers and braiding her hair, but she’s still tough. Kinda to prove you can take care of yourself without acting like a man
And my dystopian novel is 100% a male pov. He's married and has a daughter. Though he does have “powers” but that’s bc he was an experiment when he was a teenager. If you’ve seen The Tomorrow War, it’s the same relationship between the dad and daughter that he has with his daughter (except no time travel)
@Emily Chris Pratt is amazing i love him sm (he’s been my fav actor for as long as i can remember lol)
@Finch SAME! My dad teases me that I have a crush on him and then subsequently says if I bring in a man like Chris he’ll be happy to give us his blessing, like okayyyy 😂
