Hey, appreciate the read and sorry it was a bummer! Just wanted to clarify that the roving magical force (vague to avoid spoilers) in the lake is noted to travel through space and time and pop up unexpectedly, so it wasn't just there and unnoticed by indigenous peoples in centuries before. This is noted a couple times in the novel. Also I grew up in Kelowna throughout the 80s and 90s, still go back a couple times a year because my parents live there, and I chose that pub because it was in the time-frame of the book a popular go-to for Glenmore residents despite being far away. The tie between the bookstore owner's fave and the dad's fave is hopefully made evident by the twists toward the end. Just wanted to clear up those points but I definitely respect your dissatisfaction and hope you like your next read better.
