Re-listening to this one right now! :)

I'm eager to hear what you think, Nancy, and what you get from it that might be new from previous times you listened!

Oh interesting, Joelle. There's plenty I appreciate about this book, and about the author's actions for change in the world, but it's a bit too breathy and...I'm not sure how to describe this...maybe self-conscious? for me to really settle in to it.
On the topic of living openly, I'd love to see more acknowledgement, or exploration, of the impact of money and education and skin colour and fame on a person's ability to break boundaries. I know for me, money, education, and skin colour give me a level of privilege that provides a lot of safety for being openly queer. That doesn't mean it's always easy or safe for me as an individual, yet it's a whole bunch easier and safer than for some people who aren't held up by a safety net. Maybe I'd find more of this than I remember on a second reading of Untamed.
Anyhow, it's still a good addition to the collection of work that supports us in being true to ourselves, I think.

I'm listening to it with Grace, because I remembered it saying a lot of important things about swimming upstream from societally expected behavior, and doing it in an amusing, digestible way. I'm not finding it as insightful this time around (or I am, but I'm finding it repetitive and so is Grace) so we've set it aside. I'm having a year of re-reads in 2026, because so many books deliver more deeply when we return to them. This one is good but isn't giving me further insights, just reinforcement.

It absolutely says important things about swimming upstream; that's well put and similar to another book I just finished, Wintering, by Katherine May.
I love the idea of a year of re-reads. I want this to be my year of reading every book currently in my house, but it won't be until I get my novel travelling to agents. That will start happening in Feb, I believe.
