Nicsscp Sheever lays out the kitchen hierarchy and notes that women do much of the labor but are kept from “actual cooking.” Discuss what this reveals about power in the kitchens. and how Sheever positions himself within that system?

K. Ritz As with many cultures, Mearans view women as inferior to men. Sheever was raised to view the genders as equal in value, but to fit into the kitchens, he has to adopt, or pretend to adopt, the accepted customs of the people around him.
