From the writer's side of this question, I don't much understand GR's bookshelf MO? As in, why are thousands of books shelved for years - we're talking a decade - and they just sit there, lol. Do shelved books bon GR have to be sold or loaned through to app?
They will sit there until the members who shelved them remove them or move them to different shelves (read, DNF, etc.).
Has been on my 'to-read" shelf the longest (July 2011), when I was in complete adoration of Mary Doria Russell. I am not sure why this hasn't been moved to "currently reading" ... maybe it was the 17-hour commitment?

Morgenstern on the rue de Sévigné. As he becomes involved with the letter’s recipient, his elder brother takes up medical studies in Modena, their younger brother leaves school for the stage—and Europe’s unfolding tragedy sends each of their lives into terrifying uncertainty? Set in WWII, I always thought I needed the right head space for the anticipated read.

And I'll turn to you with my question: what's the oldest book on your TBR shelf. Do you remember what about it made you want to read it one day...and when will you tackle it?

What's the oldest book(s) on your TBR / to-read shelf...and what are the barriers to you reading it?
