Hi there. First thanks fro reading and reviewing HE. I noticed that you found the conflict in the relationship weird, as have many others, so I wanted to clarify. That incident was metaphorical. It was meant to represent Jackson's doubt--the result of of religious/parental pressure. I wrote a blog post which hopefully explains a lot of what you found confusing.
