Márcio Reading your comments, I felt like this book was quite close to White's "New York City Boy", fatiguing, to use the word you start with. Very good review!

Thank you for your comment. It was a slog. And I am very disappointed having imported the book to my country. It has driven me into a reading slump ;)

It can't have been that bad to have provoked such a wonderful and thoughtful review. But we shouldn't be disappointed. No one gets sharper with age. You mention rehearsal and theatre and you're right. He's been out of the limelight for years. He misses it and it shows. How to remain relevant when dying of old age? But you have to give him this: he has stamina. Maybe no longer in the sack but on the page.
