omg yesss new Stålenhag!!! Sounds interesting. I appreciate how he's carved out a niche while still exploring different angles within it. Don't mind one that's less depressing than The Labyrinth this time around to be honest!
Speaking from personal experience, it’s never fun when testing goes awry and non Euclidean geometry becomes the organizing principle. Never fun.
Ah, that looks beautiful. I have Tales from the Loop, Things from the Flood, and The Electric State on my coffee table. I'm curious how the digital ARC worked out, though, as I just had to have physical copies of the books - they are just so gorgeous! Your observation that the books seem to be moving towards a more conventional narrative is interesting. Great review, Nataliya.
Wow, wow, a new Stålenhag! I had no idea is was coming! Thank you so much, Nataliya, I need to find this 🥰 Wonderful review!
Thanks for the Stålenhag reminder just before Christmas. I've still only read the one (Electric State) which has sat on my little side table next to my bed ever since I acquired it. I have some catching up to do.

Compared to The Labyrinth this is a ‘unicorns pooping rainbows’ story. I wonder if going forward he will continue with more cohesive and less episodic storylines.
This one as probably the least odd of his books so far, and perhaps with the most explicit scenes.

And now I really want to know what happened and how you became acquainted with non-Euclidean geometry 🤔

Thanks, Ian! I’ve only read one Stålenhag in hardcover — The Labyrinth — and it was great. The rest I read in ebook versions, and now it reminds me that I really should search my library to read those in hardcover. From my limited experience, hardcover is better, but even ebook versions were very good.

I only realized it was coming because I saw a GR friend add it to her to-read list, and the. I decided to take a stab at a NetGalley request.

You should try his first one, Tales from the Loop. The artwork is wonderful, and the stories are so delightfully odd! Or The Labyrinth if you’re in a mood for something very depressing.
