that’s fucking foul
I read splatterpunk and extreme horror and that has to be one of the foulest things I've heard in a LONG time.
thank you so much for the heads up. definitely not reading this now (i love an unhinged woman moment but this is. not it).
I immediately closed the book, put it down and pushed it far away from me. Life’s too short to waste it on weird crap that makes my skin crawl.
No way this put you off - I loved this book - it's not 'weird' for the sake of it - it's about a lack of boundaries, mother-daughter relationships, consent etc.
I don't think it's fair to just simplify the book down to a 'weird unhinged girl book'. There is more depth to the book than the opening line of your review. Yes, that part was a bit full on, as were other parts of the book on the surface, but your review just comes across as very quick to judge and not a very productive review.
I can appreciate that there’s more to the story, and calling it a “weird/unhinged girl” book is not meant to be reductive (that’s how this was pitched to me, and it’s an easy way to classify the books vibes), but that aspect of the book immediately put me off! I meant no offense, just sharing my experience as a reader who loves this genre of lit 🙏
