It is with great happiness and excitement to announce that I am the new lease holder of Hope Cinema, which has been renamed, ALMSGIVING Hope Cinema & Performance House!
Let's celebrate the 80th anniversary of your amazing cinema on the 19th of December with a grand re-opening! December 20th-30th will be filled with holiday movies, with a special day long celebration on the 25th with movies, food, singing and planning 2026 together!
Beginning in January, a preschool program will begin. This will run Monday-Fridays from 9 am-12 pm and will focus on musical education using the Kelly Kirby Method, A Dozen A Day, and my most recent book, A Song ... A Dance ... A Play ... A Musical Book For You! which I've translated into French, Polish, Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian and the CNIB is just about transcribing it into Braille!
There will also be art and dance classes and of course movie days. The seniors' club is after the preschool program and I would like them to start arriving at 11:30 am for their program which will run 12 pm until 2:30 pm. This time is for seniors to enjoy movies, music, games and whatever else you would like to do during this time.
The elementary students will follow from 2:30 pm until 4:30 pm then the high schoolers from 4:30 pm until 6:30 pm. A movie book club, and a host of art programs for them to take part in. 7 pm movie nights!
Right now I have 9 am until 12 pm to be used for rehearsal for the performances and monthly recitals we will perform on the stage, with movies beginning at 12:30 pm and a last showing at 7 pm ... we will have monthly midnight movies. There will be 'for the girls' and for the 'boys' days where we will choose coming of age movies such as, 'Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret.' and 'Stand by Me.'
We will watch original movies and the remake and the generations will debate which one was best ...
Sports Week showing Angels in the Outfield, The Big Green, Mighty Ducks, Space Jam, The Longest Yard, etc.
Everyone has been so kind, welcoming, happy and thankful that I have taken on this wonderful responsibility and are wanting to help ... you have already helped so much by welcoming me and being receptive to my business plan, and I thank you all so deeply.
You have read what my plans are, so you can help by making lists of your favourite movies that fit the categories above, tell your child's preschool that they can choose a day to bring the class for 3 hours a week. I am connected with a seniors' group and will attend their monthly meeting Wednesday, and will host their monthly meetings from now on in the theatre beginning in January.
I've met some high schoolers and want to connect with Julia & Maya and Jordan & Ryder the first 4 students I met and told about the theatre. I need high schoolers and seniors to fill positions, especially grade 12 students who need to complete their 30 hours of volunteer hours for graduation ... don't worry, I will keep you on for a guaranteed 30 paid hours afterwards! You must pair with a senior within the cinema and help them outside as well, and seniors must help the teens as well.
