Sofia Ulrikson Hard agree with (most of) your takes, Nora. I liked the book for what it was, a deeper exploration of characters, dynamics, and storylines we were introduced to in the trilogy, but SOTR definitely felt «off» when compared to the others — even TBOSAS. It’s almost like SOTR ended up undermining a lot of what happens later in the trilogy (for instance the rebel plot between Haymitch and the other rebels in Catching Fire, or, as many have pointed out, the development of the connection between Katniss and Haymitch throughout the trilogy), in a way that TBOSAS didn’t do.

The Hunger Games is my favorite book series of all time (I reread it every year), and I don’t think SOTR quite lives up to it.

I completely agree with your point about undermining the trilogy. I think SOTR was a fun read, but not a great book, both on its own and for the series as a whole. I found myself questioning many of Suzanne Collins’ decisions regarding the plot, characters and connections, in a way that I never did with the trilogy, which is generally masterfully planned and executed. I am curious about how the movie adaptation will turn out though😅
