Graeme Rodaughan Since we are coming up to halloween I've lined up the following books to read in this order.

Ancient Affliction (Origin of the Undead, Book 1) by Claudia Chastain The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker 'Salem's Lot by Stephen King Vampire Wars (The Legend of Dracula #1) by Perry Lake Blood Work (Night Call, #1) by L.J. Hayward

I've started Ancient Affliction

(Update 04-Jan-17: Got all those done. Just Hellbound Heart to go...)

Graeme Rodaughan Salems Lot for our Buddy Read and because I'm intrigued to read it again.

message 3: by SeraphIonna (new)

SeraphIonna At the moment, I am reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Harry Potter, #4) by J.K. Rowling , albeit slowly. Also, I just picked up The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova in the last day or so from the library. Feeling a bit under the weather so I don't have my usual fervor while reading. Hoping to pick up the pace when I feel better.

Graeme, great selections! I've just added a few to my TBR.

message 4: by Theresa (new)

Theresa Still reading Cold Days (The Dresden Files, #14) by Jim Butcher and The Veiled Soul by Abbie Chandler . It is slow, but I'm moving along.

message 5: by Elaine (new)

Elaine Howlin Graeme, you won't sleep a wink next month with all those scary books!

Leanna, I hope you enjoy the Historian and I hope you feel better!

Good old Dresden ❤ I'll be starting Summer Knight next month.

message 6: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan I'll be busy.

I'm honored to be in such illustrious company, Graeme. :)

Yep. Speaking of which...off I go to get a few pages in before bedtime. :)

message 9: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan Way to go Theresa.

message 10: by Elaine (new)

Elaine Howlin Finished The Darkest Whisper (Lords of the Underworld #4) by Gena Showalter which was awesome! I need a break from those brotherhood style paranormal romances now....kind of ignoring Knight of a Trillion Stars

Started Transcendence by Shay Savage last night, it's not paranormal (well there's time travel...) but it is romance. It's good, different to the usual romances.

Hi Theresa, apparently the word is that Urban Fantasy will be banned - if that happens, anything could happen?....

'Pssssstttt,' said a form standing in the deep shadows of the alleyway. 'Do you want some?'

'What?' I said, as the hairs on the back of my neck started to rise, a shiver starting to itch it's way into existence between my shoulder blades.

'Books mate, I'm a Booklegger, I've got dozens of copies of the Dresden files, banned Urban Fantasy.'

'Dresden?'

'Yeah, Dresden - the real stuff - not the cheap stuff.'

I stroked my chin, glancing around the street, which had seemingly become deserted in the last minute. A stray breeze rallied into a gust, sending a rusted coke can scuttling along the sidewalk. I had to admit to myself that I was secretly intrigued by his illegal offer.

'Ok, show me what you've got, and I'll see if I really want it enough to pay your price.'

The form resolved out of the shadows, he was tall, thick set and burly, cloaked in a long, smoke coloured duster and broad brimmed hat. All I could see by the street lights was the bottom of his face, a crooked grin curling the edges of his thin lipped mouth.

'Price? Don't worry about the price, it's only a small thing that I ask for, and I find that most people don't miss it once it's gone,' he said, chuckling quietly for a long, lingering moment.

My hackles rose, I felt the itch between my shoulder blades begin to grow, stretching out familiar fingers, as my skin began to transform.

I growled, my voice suddenly an octave lower, 'No one booklegs Dresden on my watch!'

He snarled, I leaped, we clashed, hard and fast. He was dense muscle under the duster and I felt like I was working against stone as we fought.

But stone can be brittle and I knew this was only going to end one way for him - badly.

Graeme Rodaughan Just finished Ancient Affliction (Origin of the Undead, Book 1) by Claudia Chastain and now moving onto a couple of quick reads.

The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker and The Mist by Stephen King

Followed by 'Salem's Lot by Stephen King and Night Watch (Watch, #1) by Sergei Lukyanenko to share with this group.

Somewhere along the line I'll fit in Usher's Passing by Robert McCammon

Followed by Vampire Wars by Perry Lake and Blood Work (Night Call, #1) by L.J. Hayward

message 13: by Elaine (new)

Elaine Howlin I have yet to read any Clive Barker. I bought Mister B. Gone by Clive Barker a long time ago and still have to read it! I enjoyed the movie of The Mist.

message 14: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan I started with weaveworld which I liked.

Much of his work I have not read, but I very much liked the first two hellraiser movies, and very much disliked everything "hellraiser" that came after.

I enjoyed the Mist - brilliant concept. I want to smash through both the small books before I tackle some longer works.

message 15: by Elaine (new)

Elaine Howlin I forgot those movies were based on his books!! I really liked the first one and I'm a bit meh on the second.

lol enjoy your hulk reading!

Lol, I loved that Graeme. That made a great short story! I have finished Cold Days. I made quick work of the last 100 pages, hehe. I am nearing the end of The Veiled Soul as well.

message 18: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan Smile.

message 19: by Elaine (new)

Elaine Howlin I started Night Watch (Watch, #1) by Sergei Lukyanenko and Some Girls Bite (Chicagoland Vampires, #1) by Chloe Neill last night and listening to Night Game (GhostWalkers, #3) by Christine Feehan . Night Watch and Some Girls Bite are pretty good so far. Night Game is ok.

message 20: by Elaine (new)

Elaine Howlin I'm half way through Night Watch (Watch, #1) by Sergei Lukyanenko now. Going to read our indie book A Subtle Agency (The Metaframe War, #1) by Graeme Rodaughan over the weekend. I'm also reading Blood Price (Vicki Nelson, #1) by Tanya Huff for a reading challenge.

Some Girls Bite (Chicagoland Vampires, #1) by Chloe Neill was really good, I gobbled up the next book Friday Night Bites (Chicagoland Vampires, #2) by Chloe Neill straight after. Night Game (GhostWalkers, #3) by Christine Feehan was meh.... 2 stars, very little effort went into the story.

message 21: by Theresa (new)

Theresa I have finished The Veiled Soul by Abbie Chandler . It was a solid 3. I have my review posted. I am now onto Skin Game (The Dresden Files, #15) by Jim Butcher ,

message 22: by Elaine (new)

Elaine Howlin Yay more Harry! Enjoy Theresa!

I'm still reading Night Watch (Watch, #1) by Sergei Lukyanenko and Blood Price (Vicki Nelson, #1) by Tanya Huff I've been really busy. It doesn't usually take me a week to read a book!

Thanks Elaine! Enjoy your books as well. I remember the days when it didn't take me weeks to read a book. I had alot more time on my hands then, and not as much going on. Ah well.

message 24: by Elaine (new)

Elaine Howlin I'm reading A Subtle Agency (The Metaframe War, #1) by Graeme Rodaughan for our indie group read, it's very good so far. I'm re-reading Ashes of Midnight (Midnight Breed, #6) by Lara Adrian just cause I felt like it and it suits a task in a challenge and I'm listening to Summer Knight (The Dresden Files, #4) by Jim Butcher cause Harry is awesome. Enjoying all of them.

Starting to enjoy reading again thank god!

message 25: by Elaine (new)

Elaine Howlin I haven't read anything in a week now. Had a lot of family stuff and now moving. Can't wait for this time next week when it will all be done.

message 26: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan Good luck with it all, sounds like you've had a huge amount going on.

message 27: by Michele (new)

Michele Finished my re-read of The Stand over the weekend. Following one apocalypse with another, I then read the election results and lapsed into shock for about 24 hours.

Now, I've started J. G Ballard's Crash. It's...weird. I mean, even weirder than I expected, knowing the basic premise. I may not be able to finish it; it's actually getting a little boring and repetitive. I'm hoping that the author is doing that deliberately to create a sense of the obsessive nature of the main character, but I feel like I'm being beaten over the head with it. Using an unpleasantly grimy stick.

I just got Children of the New World: Stories and I'm Buffy and You're History: Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Contemporary Feminism at the library. I may have to opt for one of those.

message 28: by Graeme (last edited Nov 10, 2016 08:38PM) (new)

Graeme Rodaughan I'm in the middle of Vampire Wars by Perry Lake Vampire Wars and I've started Something Wicked This Way Comes (Green Town, #2) by Ray Bradbury Something Wicked This Way Comes still need to get a copy of The Lesser Dead by Christopher Buehlman The Lesser Dead

message 29: by Michele (new)

Michele Could I ask a favor? Could people use book links instead of (or in addition to) book cover links? Text is much easier to comprehend than images on a smaller devices like smartphones. Thanks :)

message 30: by MadameZelda (new)

MadameZelda I would rather have "in addition to," for title links and cover links. (This is just my opinion, but I feel people have an easier time looking and recognizing cover links than title links.)

If I am mistaken, pardon me for making this comment.

message 31: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan Good idea Michele

message 32: by Theresa (new)

Theresa I have finished Skin Game Skin Game (The Dresden Files, #15) by Jim Butcher and have just started a book I've had stewing on my Kindle app. It is Forever Bound Forever Bound (Bound by Darkness, #1) by Leanne Scott .

message 33: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan Hi Theresa, how was skin game?

message 34: by Anita (new)

I love seeing the book covers too. I'm cool with doing both :) You can hover the mouse pointer over a book cover and the title usually comes up as well (obviously that won't work on a phone/tablet).

I ordered my copy of The Lesser Dead The Lesser Dead by Christopher Buehlman from The Book Depository they do free worldwide delivery.

message 37: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan The Book Depository is my go to place for paperbacks, but I'll get this on Kindle.

message 38: by Elaine (new)

Elaine Howlin Coolio, I thought it was a bit overpriced on kindle. I don't like paying over €5 for ebooks.... I'd like to have something physical to hold in my hands for the extra money.

message 39: by Elaine (last edited Nov 11, 2016 12:58PM) (new)

Elaine Howlin Has anyone started reading The Lesser Dead by Christopher Buehlman The Lesser Dead yet? Or our indie read Vampire Wars (The Legend of Dracula #1) by Perry Lake Vampire Wars? Don't forget you can request a copy from Perry!!

message 40: by Theresa (new)

Theresa Graeme Rodaughan wrote: "Hi Theresa, how was skin game?"

Hey Graeme. I thought Skin Game was awesome! One of the best Dresden books to date in my opinion. My review is posted here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... . I hope you're enjoying Vampire Wars.

message 41: by Michele (new)

Michele Elaine wrote: "Has anyone started reading The Lesser Dead yet?"

Elaine Howlin I'm listening to Blood Rites (The Dresden Files, #6) by Jim Butcher Blood Rites and reading The Lesser Dead by Christopher Buehlman The Lesser Dead.

message 43: by Theresa (new)

Theresa I am trying to read Forever Bound Forever Bound (Bound by Darkness, #1) by Leanne Scott . It is going very slowly - just not getting into it. I might start Goblin Stories by Arthur Daigle. I have enjoyed his past works. His latest one isn't listed on Goodreads yet.

message 44: by Michele (new)

Michele Let me see, since last posting I've finished a whole bunch of stuff, too many to list. In particular, I read some very good science fiction: Children of the New World: Stories (SF short stories with a technological/contemporary angle), Wine of the Dreamers (classic golden age sci fi), and Version Control (clever, twisty with lots of physics stuff for the geeks in the audience).

Right now I'm finishing a re-read of Atlas Shrugged :)

message 45: by Nadine (new)

Nadine Parker Right now I am reading Salvaged Soul (Ignited, #3) by Desni Dantone by Desni Datone Vampire Wars (The Legend of Dracula #1) by Perry Lake by Perry Lake. I am also listening to the audio book CyberStorm by Matthew Mather by Matthew Mather.

message 46: by Michele (new)

Michele Finished Atlas Shrugged, just started Station Eleven, which was loaned/recommended by a friend. Good so far.

message 47: by Elaine (new)

Elaine Howlin I abandoned City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments, #4) by Cassandra Clare because I found it boring... Still listening to Dead Beat (The Dresden Files, #7) by Jim Butcher

I can't settle on a book to read, I've started 3 in the last two days! I think I'll stick with Wicked Intentions (Maiden Lane, #1) by Elizabeth Hoyt
