message 1: by MGrace (new)

MGrace Okay so I wasn’t the only one that had to reread lol I also gave it a 3.

message 2: by Fedel (new)

Fedel Palmero Audiobook helped alot more. It was extremely well narrated with different voices per character which helped massively to compartmentalise each story arch.

message 3: by Angelina (new)

Angelina Baldwin I listened to this one and had to go back a few times. A solid 3 for me, too.

message 4: by Elana (new)

Elana Miller I’m not a huge fan. Idk what’s going on with some parts of the story atm and I’m about 35% thru

message 5: by Kim (new)

Kim I’m 33% in and also very confused

message 6: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy Hampton I love John Mars, but this was my least favorite of his so far.

message 7: by Kara (new)

Kara Teel I feel the same. I was torn between a 3-4 but ultimately landed on a 3. Too much going on in this one for me.

message 8: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Brady! Which John Mars book would you recommend then? :))

message 9: by Kymm (new)

Kymm Cothren Same! I had to keep going back to see whose perspective I was reading from. I didn’t like any of the characters either. I had just finished The Family Experiment, which I really liked.

message 10: by Madison (new)

Madison Evans I felt the exact same way. I read different POV books all the time with no trouble, but for a good 40-50% of the book, i was confused. I mean, it comes together, but my goodness.

message 11: by Jenna (new)

Jenna McGee A solid three for me also and I did audio

message 12: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne Amato Same - I am 27% in and it just isn’t flowing.

message 13: by Jessica (new)

Jessica My first book by him was Keep it In The Family and was a solid 5 if not 6 stars. I was so blown away that I immediately started You Killed Me First and sadly I might just DNF. It's all over the place with minimal excitement.

message 14: by Yleana (new)

Yleana Medina Perfectly said. I felt the same way and also rated it a 3

message 15: by Leela (new)

Leela I completely agree. It’s the first book of his I have read, and thought it was ok. It had put me off reading other books. However after reading other reviews I think I will try keep it in the family.
It gets better towards the end.

message 16: by Rich (new)

Rich You hit this right on the head. I felt the exact same way. I was disappointed.

message 17: by Kelly (new)

Kelly I felt the same way. Everyone was so unlikable and I felt like there was way too much going on.

message 18: by Dom (new)

Dom Hollowell I totally agree with you. I was definitely confused a few times.

message 19: by Sandy (new)

Sandy This was almost too many twists and turns. I was going back between audio and reading it. And I think I maybe missed a couple of chapters because I was in the car driving trying to figure out where I actually left off the last time. So I felt like I missed a few things, but, yeah, you hit it right on the head.

message 20: by Monica (new)

Monica It could’ve been a 4. I gave it a 3. I just felt something was missing and at the same time there was too much .

message 21: by Joanne (new)

Joanne I am a huge John Marrs fan and have read all but 2 of his books prior to You Killed Me First. All of them had me hooked from Chapter one through to the end. And I rated them all 4 to 5 stars. But this one... I rated it 2-stars. It was ok... but not up to Marrs' caliber, imo.

As far as re-reading it, it sounds like many of us had to do that! HA! Halfway through the book, I went back and just read the italicized chapters sequentially and then I understood what these chapters were about, however, I was thinking it was a different character than who it turned out to be.

message 22: by Gina (new)

Gina Rendon I had to keep flipping back to see who was narrating.

message 23: by Antonia (new)

Antonia Yes same for me - I felt it was very far fetched and hard to believe. I was very confused by the “voices” too. It was not a favorite for me.

message 24: by Danielle (new)

Danielle Pfingsten Omg I am soooo glad I’m not the only one who feels the same way! 👏🏼

message 25: by Lidia (new)

Lidia Glanzmann Same here

message 26: by Tina (new)

Tina M. Absolutely agree with all of you. I was disappointed!

message 27: by Maureen (new)

Maureen I felt the same, found it very confusing in parts

message 28: by Emilie (new)

Emilie Painter yes I felt this to - also agree with the 3 stars being the right fit

message 29: by Jamielee (new)

Jamielee Just gave 3 stars also, my least favourite of his books. I was constantly checking who the chapter was being narrated by and took too long to understand what was going on. Shame!

message 30: by Jodi (new)

Jodi I totally agree with everyone’s 3 stars. I almost DNF..but the second half was much better.

message 31: by Ar'Tasa (new)

Ar'Tasa i agree. also kept having to reread to keep up.

message 32: by Iffy Tiffy (new)

Iffy Tiffy I am currently listening & due to the confusion I am also going to settle for a 3 star rating.

message 33: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Me currently 🤣

message 34: by Dee (new)

Dee Schwarz I was a little confused and had to write down who the characters were . Eventually it all came together . Love the closing line ... Chapter 39 to all those that hold you back or put you down 😍

message 35: by Blair (new)

Blair Also confused

message 36: by L (new)

L Van Totally agree with this review

message 37: by Theresa (new)

Theresa Flores Yes, I posted something similar… I agree it was a little much. I feel bad rating someone’s work, lol, but it is what it is, I also gave 3 stars…
