Okay so I wasn’t the only one that had to reread lol I also gave it a 3.
Audiobook helped alot more. It was extremely well narrated with different voices per character which helped massively to compartmentalise each story arch.
I feel the same. I was torn between a 3-4 but ultimately landed on a 3. Too much going on in this one for me.
Same! I had to keep going back to see whose perspective I was reading from. I didn’t like any of the characters either. I had just finished The Family Experiment, which I really liked.
I felt the exact same way. I read different POV books all the time with no trouble, but for a good 40-50% of the book, i was confused. I mean, it comes together, but my goodness.
My first book by him was Keep it In The Family and was a solid 5 if not 6 stars. I was so blown away that I immediately started You Killed Me First and sadly I might just DNF. It's all over the place with minimal excitement.
I completely agree. It’s the first book of his I have read, and thought it was ok. It had put me off reading other books. However after reading other reviews I think I will try keep it in the family.
It gets better towards the end.
This was almost too many twists and turns. I was going back between audio and reading it. And I think I maybe missed a couple of chapters because I was in the car driving trying to figure out where I actually left off the last time. So I felt like I missed a few things, but, yeah, you hit it right on the head.
It could’ve been a 4. I gave it a 3. I just felt something was missing and at the same time there was too much .
I am a huge John Marrs fan and have read all but 2 of his books prior to You Killed Me First. All of them had me hooked from Chapter one through to the end. And I rated them all 4 to 5 stars. But this one... I rated it 2-stars. It was ok... but not up to Marrs' caliber, imo.
As far as re-reading it, it sounds like many of us had to do that! HA! Halfway through the book, I went back and just read the italicized chapters sequentially and then I understood what these chapters were about, however, I was thinking it was a different character than who it turned out to be.
Yes same for me - I felt it was very far fetched and hard to believe. I was very confused by the “voices” too. It was not a favorite for me.
Just gave 3 stars also, my least favourite of his books. I was constantly checking who the chapter was being narrated by and took too long to understand what was going on. Shame!
I was a little confused and had to write down who the characters were . Eventually it all came together . Love the closing line ... Chapter 39 to all those that hold you back or put you down 😍
