Thanks for writing my exact review.
Me too. Though I confess that I gave up early on as I couldn't figure out exactly who was who and what was going on.
I’m listening to the audio version & thought I was missing pieces, but clearly everyone in this thread has the same opinion as I do. I guess I’m just enlightened enough to read this new literary darling!
Couldn’t agree with this more… and I’m only 40 pages in. I popped on here to see if I was the only one feeling this way!
I came here to see what others were saying after 100 pages. I’m so confused. Awful character development and super weird style. I’m thinking DNF for this. It’s terrible.
I couldn’t have said it better myself. I appreciate a book that doesn’t choose a happy ending, that evokes a real feeling of anger. But when I read that last chapter I wanted to throw the book across the room - not because I hated it or was angry in a moving way. But because I felt annoyed that I spent the time reading that hoping for some sort of redemption for any of the characters only to get none. To get any for myself for having to read it. The biggest thing I felt was probably disgust for every character but Anna and Sophie.
Couldn’t have described it better myself. The only redeeming character in this book turned out to be a feckless social climber in the end. What a disgrace to all stories that depict SA.
Well…. I did the same… wanted to check comments on this read, to see if it was just “ Me”, or was everyone a little confused, bored, and ready to put the book back on the shelf only after 90 pages!! I’m trying to give the characters the benefit of the doubt, but it’s NOT easy!!
I totally agree. Sadly I have a friend who had this exact situation occur and her parents did not back her. They wouldn't speak of it. To this day it haunts her.
Pg 32 and wondering if I forgot how to read. What is going on? Who is who? Conversations are so disjointed. I'll push on I suppose...
This review captures EXACTLY my thoughts on the book thus far. Into the DNF it goes. I can’t give any more precious time to it.
I’m a quarter of the way through this book, and decided to look at reviews(despite never doing this until AFTER) because I felt EXACTLY like this, and wanted to see if my thoughts were shared before continuing. Don’t think I’ll be finishing this one.
I just came on here to see if anybody else felt as confused as I about this book. I’m glad to know I’m not alone! It’s boring & disjointed & I find myself going back to reread & getting more confused. After 80 pages, I am done, DNF!!! When I read. I want to enjoy a book. This is hopeless!
