I was hooked by the prologue. Normally I hate prologues - but this one was amazing. As much as I enjoyed Strange the Dreamer - and agree that writing it off as YA is a mistake...the second book Muse of Nightmares was not just YA, but everything I dislike about most YA. Might well feel different if I was 15 when I read it. If the second book lived up to the first (I clearly didn't react to the last 2/3 the way you did!) it would have been one of my favourite fantasies of all time.
