Becky Norman Hi everyone,

I am now taking nominations for the October 2025 Book of the Month on this thread. In April and October each year, we choose a work of fiction, so please limit your nominations to a novel or collection of short stories.

As a reminder, here are the rules:
- Please try to include a link to the book if you can
- Check the Previous BOTM list to ensure we haven't read it before (https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...)
- Limit your nomination to one book per month so everyone has an equal chance of winning
- Get your nomination in by Monday, Sept. 8th - the poll will go up on Tuesday, Sept. 9th.

Thank you,
Becky

Sharman Russell I haven't been in this discussion group for a long time! But if you are taking suggestions for a fiction book on nature, one of my favorites is Jesmyn Ward's Salvage the Bones. About the Katrina hurricane and a Black family in rural Louisiana, I think of this as a powerful book about climate change, with wonderful descriptions of the natural world. A content warning might be that there are scenes of dog fighting.

I liked this book a lot too.

Oh good I have this on my tbr. I can’t tell how it’s related to nature though. I didn’t notice any nature or environment tags.

Jessica Mann Now that this month’s nomination is for fiction, I wanted to nominate my novel, Uplift.

It’s a work of realistic animal fiction (I am both a naturalist and writer), and the story is told entirely through the eyes of birds and other nonhuman characters. It has won 5 book awards so far in 2025, been featured in Psychology Today and The Nature Conservancy, and is an enlightening and inspiring read for nature lovers.
