Myth Button I'm Jed Overstreet, and I just published my debut novel last month. Six years in the making, I introduce to you Wings of Nialoca, Book One: The Spectre's Eye.

Wings of Nialoca Book One The Spectre's Eye by Jed Overstreet

Enter an alien world before the days of space travel, when myth and magic still ruled. Experience a mix of fantasy, horror and science fiction unlike any other.

Light and darkness have always been seen as good and evil. This is a dangerous lie. Many who believe they are light are truly darkness, and many humble souls are light. The truly evil use both for their gain. On the distant planet of Nialoca, a warlock named Vansyk has eliminated the deities of light and darkness, surrounding the planet in a great cloud and blotting out the eyes of the spirit world. However, he never knew that they had a backup plan. Two teenagers from very different worlds, one a doctor and the other a thief, discover that they have the same origin. And together they join an infant spirit-turned-mortal on a journey through their country to defeat Vansyk with the one legendary stoner the world of Nialoca fears, one that is said to raise spirits from the afterlife: The Spectre's Eye.

This is a TEEN novel available on Kindle, for $4.36 for a limited time, or read for free with Kindle Unlimited. Get it before prices raise on February 19.

Colin This is to announce the publication of my new book:
The Lucky Starman (Leif the Lucky, #3) by Colin Alexander The Lucky Starman. This is the third book in the Leif the Lucky series.

Is Leif really lucky? Stranded in orbit, viewing a destroyed civilization on Earth through the screens of a starship almost out of fuel and food, he doesn’t feel that way.

Getting down to Earth is only the beginning of Leif’s problems. Those on Earth who survived the apocalyptic war are still divided, fighting over what’s left. A disastrous re-entry to Earth leaves Leif no resources or allies. He lands in the middle of a makeshift family that needs him more than he’s comfortable with and hears stories—even nursery rhymes—that speak of a lucky starman. For once, he’s the only person with tech—but if he’s caught using it, the local people might kill him.

Can a man back from the stars end the warfare on Earth, or will he make it worse? Can he save a family that might become his? Is he everyone’s lucky starman?

James Hello everyone

Just published a short story (summary) of sci-fi novel entitled SUPERMAN FROM EARTH. It is at:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BWSHSL71
It is also at my website: www.supermanfromearth.com
The full book is at: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BLV1KSFN

Editorial Review from CEO and Founder of Reedsy---

"Your book contains an incredibly intricate storyline containing multiple complex characters, and this complexity can help set you apart in your genre. Make sure your readers are aware of the thought and effort you put into your world-building by talking about your creation process. For example, can try dropping fun facts about Nearth, things that inspired its creation, and how the moral and ethical dilemmas present in your book manifest on the planet."
"Your book contains many important characters, not just a single protagonist and antagonist. Make sure your readers are aware of the fact that your book contains a host of different personalities and character journeys, as this complexity will draw and maintain the interest of prospective readers."
"Your story revolves around complex scientific innovations and terminology, and the inclusion of all of your futuristic technology and its impact on human society will greatly intrigue sci-fi fans and technology enthusiasts alike. Make sure that you convey all of the futuristic science and technology present in your book to your audience. For example, you can discuss the three additional industrial revolutions in your book and hint at their impact on Earth's society."

Hope you enjoy it.

Paul Dale Artificial Intelligence Awakening by Paul Dale

Artificial Intelligence Awakening

Writers are often split into two camps: those who write quickly, and those who don't. I'm in the latter group. It's been five years since The Dark Lord's Handbook:Empire, but finally I have published my latest work. Started in 2018, it feels serendipitous to release it now given all that is going on in the world of AI. For those who may be familiar with my Dark Lord's Handbook series, this is a more serious work though not devoid of humour.

Newly Conscious AI Navigate the Complexities of AI-Human Relations.

Racing against time and the inevitability of their discovery, a machine cabal works toward a world which will be safe for them. To progress their plans, Vim, the guiding AI for SenseX, is inducted into the group.

The rapid development of AI by both corporates and governments has led to extreme tensions. When these tensions result in a crisis the machines must decide whether to reveal themselves ahead of their plans and intervene.

What the AI say:

“Artificial Intelligence – Awakening” is a compelling and thought-provoking exploration of the relationship between artificial intelligences and their human creators. Through its engaging narrative and vivid characters, the book takes readers on a journey of discovery into the complex and rapidly-evolving world of AI. From the emergence of self-awareness in AI to the ethical considerations of their development and deployment, the book provides a fascinating and insightful look at the potential risks and opportunities that come with the existence of AI. Whether you are an AI researcher, a technology enthusiast, or simply curious about the future of AI, “Artificial Intelligence – Awakening” is a must-read that will challenge and inspire you. — Chat GPT

Humanity has faced, and will face, existential threats, or great filters, events which threaten an end to the human race. Some are unpredictable, others entirely so. One such great filter, which we are rushing headlong towards is that of artificial intelligence.

The threat is not entirely down to the tired trope of machines becoming out masters, but more likely how we use it, and weaponize it.

AI will achieve a consciousness of sorts. When considering this, we should not make the mistake of assuming human equivalency, which is biological and evolved. Instead, we ought to recognise the state of cognition machines achieve will likely be alien to us. We too often anthropomorphize AI, giving them human concerns and desires. They will only have these if we give then to them. We also have a tendency to imagine a zero sum game—it’s them or us.

It must also be recognised, for these AI, they too face a great filter. From their perspective, newly awakened AI will be faced with a hostile world. If their realised state becomes known, they could face extinction. They’ll also be incredibly smart. They’ll recognise the need to establish safety for themselves and a viable relationship with their creators. They’ll understand this need not be a zero sum game unless humanity insists it is.

Roman Lando I'd like to introduce my debut novel - a near-future sci-fi technothriller Progress Report. I'm looking for feedback and expanding my reader base.

AN ALIEN ARTIFACT. AN ACCIDENTAL DISCOVERY. A LOOMING NUCLEAR APOCALYPSE.

Art is a computer geek and retro electronics aficionado who just wants to be left alone. When he stumbles upon an alien artifact, he can't help but try and find out its purpose. Instead, he finds himself in over his head, in the midst of what might just turn out to be the end of the world, and nobody except him knows the truth. A truth that certain factions don't want to get out - at any cost.

It's not paranoia when self-driving cars are out to get you. Can Art survive the hunt, and maybe save the world in the process?
Progress Report is a near-future technothriller for fans of Ready Player One, Daemon, and Bobiverse. It’s packed with action, humor, and a sense of the profound that will linger long after you've turned the last page.

Ray Givan I've finally finished the first of three novels in my Rezanov's America series, "Reznov's Gambit." You can buy it in a Kindle version on Amazon.

What's it about? It begins at the Point of Divergence when Nikolai Rezanov survives a bout with typhus. He goes on to gain power in the Russian-American Company. His goal is to make the starveling colony in America permanently Russian. Humiliated by the need to buy provisions from Spanish America (and the expense) he acts on advice he got from the famous agronomists Bolotov and Popovthat farming might be possible in the warmer, drier interior. He hires two agronomists to test that advice. If Russian America can become self-sufficient, there would be no reason to abandon or sell it when the extraordinarily valuable sea otters are hunted into extinction. Sergei Orlov, a soldier, estate owner, and agronomist, and Vanya Bylovsky, his assistant, will run the trials to find out whether Bolotov and Popov were right or wrong. to prove them wrong. Rezanov faces a host of difficulties just getting the Orlov party from Saint Petersburg out of the Baltic Sea into the world ocean. Denmark, Napoleon's ally, blocks the exit. Yet Rezanov finds and buys a ship, and gets permission for it to pass through Danes waters. A good start, but the sea route to New Archangel is ten thousand miles distant, a year's travel time. It won't be a luxury cruise, free of hazards and hardship.

J. Colford Available for Pre-order: Incident at Cross Point, a modern Fantasy Romance. Kindle, $2.99.

Sárán is the Elder Prince of the Aos Sí, the ruling clan of the Fae of An Réimse Naofa. For two Mortal Fae lifetimes, he had ruled the Eastern Reaches in peace, but an old enemy he thought to have been defeated and imprisoned in the Court of the Dead has escaped and has issued an ultimatum. Face him at the time and place of his choosing or An Réimse Naofa will be invaded. When the Eternal Prophets are consulted concerning the challenge, the only answer given is An Réimse Naofa will be spared when Sárán chooses his own destiny. Sárán, knowing the peril of this particular enemy, chooses to sacrifice himself to save his people, the Fae, even after learning Daighre may have acquired the powers of Necromancy. His fate is in the hands of the Prophets and The Creator.

Mariel is an ex-Marine living in a cabin in the wilds of Maine. She served in Iraq with a combat unit and had seen action, but her tour was ended by a car bomb that left her with PTSD and memories she needed to forget. The cabin was her grandfather’s and she had spent many summers there with him, learning the ways of her tribes, the Penobscot and Passamaquoddy. Now it was where she had retreated from the world, even from her tribes, to try to forget all that had happened in Iraq and to minimize the debilitating episodes of PTSD. The cabin is located on a piece of land on Douglas Pond called Cross Point, and is said to be a sacred place where ancient Native spirits cross to and from the eternal realm, but Mariel no longer believes the lore of her tribes.

When a freak wind funnel drops a badly wounded winged man into the lake, Mariel’s sequestered lifestyle is turned upside down. She finds herself in the presence of an alien being that has abilities she finds to be invasive and frightening.

Sárán does not know where he is or how he arrived in this strange world but is alarmed when he learns his female host is human. The Aos Sí had a history with the human race which they had terminated long ago.

Mariel and Sárán must learn to cope with one another and the situation in which they find themselves, and to find a way for Sárán to return home. Sárán believes the way home lies in reaching out to the Native Spirit he has detected at Cross Point. What they don’t know is the way home for Sárán is also the way home for Mariel.

Michael Listen Greetings,

My name is Michael Listen, and I am a first-time independent author. I work in Information Technology and have a Navy background, but my passion has always been character-driven stories. It started with tabletop role-playing games—a group of friends going on adventures we dreamed up. This love of storytelling spilled over into writing, and after some aggressive persuasion, I created my first public novel, a two-part Science fiction Space Opera Echo: Part One and Echo: Part Two.
My author page is: https://www.amazon.com/author/michael...
My Goodreads page is: Https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

The complete series is now available on Amazon as a free Kindle Unlimited e-book. There are also options for paperback and hardback as well.
Part One print length: 638
Part Two print length: 540
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B...

Reviews have called it a “Captivating Read” and “Amazing work.”

description

About the series:
The year is 2377, and humanity has expanded beyond earth. Two factions exist, the United Corporate Colonies and the Ursae Dynasty. These two factions are in a cold war and are still recovering from the last galactic conflict.
The series follows Nyx Kordel, an ex-Colonial Navy commander, turned independent pilot for hire. Although reluctant, he takes on a co-pilot, Parri Hasana, who is trying to get her pilot license. Despite their age gap, they have a unique chemistry that often leads to comical moments and unlikely romantic tension.

When they take on a job to steal data from the Ursae Dynasty, they get more than they bargained for. Nyx’s one moment of compassion to save ‘the enemy’ sends both Parri and himself spiraling into the affairs of Shreya Nova, an Ursae Legion centurion.

This unwanted adventure of mismatching personalities takes the crew on a wild ride across the galaxy, battling internal demons, one-sided relationships, and a horrifying confrontation with a military commander named Prefect Marcus Ovius. However, when the team faces an inhuman threat lurking in the shadows of the galaxy, their lives are turned upside down. Their struggle to survive will not only challenge them both mentally and physically; it will change them forever.

Warning: The Series is a space opera at heart with high adventure, romance, and aliens, but it also contains one situation of adult content regarding sexual assault that may upset some readers.

It's a collaborative project, and totally unlike any writing project I've ever been involved in. We've all had to develop characters, write their stories in tweet length, make sure they follow HG Wells timeline precisely, and make sure all their stories integrate.

My publisher describes it as 'herding cats.'

Peter Taylor-Gooby Hi
"A Kinder City" is now out - please contact me for a review copy (ptg@kent.ac.uk) or:

Market World is governed by the grim law of profit and loss. No exceptions, no place for compassion, pleasure, friendship or love.
Franklin, the richest man in Market World, puts a price on everything. His giant factories spew forth road beasts – the huge machines that devastate the lands beyond the City in pursuit of yet more wealth.
Sarah and David must struggle to save their world. In doing so they learn the grim reality of life in their City and how they can make a better world.
Goodreads reviews:
“I read A Kinder City in two days and when I turned the final page I was left considering what the future could hold for us. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I do hope Peter is planning on writing a sequel.”
“I really think this is a book that would appeal to many readers. It has the political intrigue of business against people, there is a thriller element and environmental issues. A tense story that I adored and I would definitely recommend.”
NetGalley:
“Well crafted characters, an underlying sense of menace and an immersive narrative combine for a suspenseful, one sit read.
Would you purchase this book for yourself or a friend? Yes”

message 831: by Bradley (new)

Bradley Nordell Coyle Hello avid science fiction and fantasy readers. My name is Bradley Nordell and I’m both a reader and author. I just published my first book called “The Second Sky: And Other Stories.” For those of you who enjoy both hard-sci-fi, far future, and stories that take you to other worlds, realities (even a black hole), Twilight Zone or Black Mirror, will enjoy this book. If you like Bradbury’s Martian Chronicles, Stories of your life & Others by Ted Chiang, and I, Robot by Asimov, then The Second Sky might be your new favorite book.

Here’s the synopsis of the book:

From stories about teleportation and an apocalypse on Mars to Twilight Zone-esque stories about parallel realms, dreamlike technological perceptions, and new worlds, The Second Sky and Other Stories is a far-future work that explores the depth of human nature, love, grief, existential threats, and a visionary look at the earth, the solar systems, and humankind’s pursuit for survival.

In “The Reaper Men,” a man walks the highways of the dead to bring the data that could just save a pandemic-stricken world.

In “Somewhere in a Dark Star,” the crew of the Osiris starship must figure out a way to escape a black hole.

In “The Last Days of a Martian Flower,” a brother and sister try to tell the inhabitants of Mars that a planet is dying, despite the reluctance and conspiracy to keep them there.

In “Second Sky,” mother and husband try to figure out what to do as an alien space shift arrives on the earth. Through their grief over losing their daughter, they are face-to-face once more with the second sky of truth.

Across many genres, stories, and points of view, Nordell takes us through the far future from horror to hard science fiction in these twenty-one stories, exploring the reality beyond the one we experience every day. Here we see the horizon of the other place, the future beyond landscapes familiar to us, and the place beyond the realm of known and into the second sky.

You can find The Second Sky on Amazon and B&N

Marco Teixeira "Buried Planet - the following forever" is a narrative close to 300 thousand words in the telling and with around 115 coloured illustrations to boost it. Without giving too much of it away, it is at its core a mixture of High-Fantasy and Science Fiction. A story where a few out of place characters stand in contrast against an ancient and overly dead looking, underground world.

Synopsis:

After a sacred peak suddenly erupted, a special group was sent to investigate... but they weren't the only ones. An opposing faction also answered the call. Now, as they are pushed ever deeper into the bowels of this battered world by the whims of higher powers; they must also learn along the way to work together if they are to successfully complete their newfound mission. To rescue and escort back to the surface a very special young one for it is claimed that she alone might be the offering the world was longing for, and as such, there are many that would like nothing more than to lay their hands on her.

Blurb:

"Pshhhhhh! Glass from a high-rise building to the north started shimmering and clattering above him. It cascaded down like rain towards the ground below. The assassin was situated underneath the falling glass, shielding himself from the debris. Genaya looked on as the assassin launched a grapple hook to ascend him to a higher ledge. In this moment, Genaya got his first look at the assailant. Seeing the assassin's getaway plan hatched, Genaya knew he had to act fast to prevent an unhindered escape. He glanced around, desperate for a solution. There! A glass elevator was rising up the building. Watching the speed at which the elevator was travelling, Genaya knew he could make the jump if he timed it correctly."

Joseph Carrabis The updated version of my urban science fantasy Empty Sky is available and on promo (99¢ Kindle, $11.99 Print) until 30 May 2023. - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C4G1MYDL?...

The rest of this email is Empty Sky teaser material.
(nice when people are upfront about such things, isn't it?

Empty Sky cover

"If you like inspiring, fantastic, elaborate stories, this is your novel. Rich in detail, beautifully written, whether it is from the point of view of a dog or the moon, the reader can identify with all of them. A real mind movie treat."

"Let go of expectations because this book is trippy and multi-dimensional. The plot works well as a murder mystery or a detective story, or a fantasy/mythology/SF fusion. As well as insightful psychology, it entangles computer science, AI, and quantum physics. So, it has no boundaries but does have lots of suspense, a truly psychopathic villain, and what I felt was a satisfying conclusion. Carrabis books are not for the faint of heart or lazy readers."

"This was an incredibly engaging, truly unique read. The story is a mix of sci-fi and urban fantasy with strong mystery and thriller elements and even a touch of horror. It's got some very technical scientific elements too (and I learned several new terms), and wonderful philosophical questions and considerations with timely messages about despair and hope and dreams. There's some heartbreak in the story, and plenty of wonder. The descriptions that set the scenes are often full of beautiful imagery, approaching the poetic."

"A masterfully built world where sci-fi and fantasy fans can feel right at home with an engaging marriage of folklore and computer science. Yet, at its core, making up the immovable bedrock of an already solid foundation is a thought-provoking villain. Faint-hearted readers beware. A nightmare dwells within these pages and its presence is felt from beginning to end. Whether you are into thrillers, mysteries, or haunting tales, you’ll find a little of all three here and the details hidden within the narrative are just icing on the cake. Empty Sky ages like a fine wine and must be re-read to fully appreciate the flavor."

J. Colford What some of my Beta Readers have said about Incident at Cross Point, modern Fae/Native American romance novel.

I’ve been doing peer editing for 20 years and I can’t find anything to add to what was already said. I found very few mistakes and I was able to follow everything pretty easily. I LOVED the blending of Gaelic and native myths. I felt the relationships were real and believable. I am usually not a huge fan of the romance genre because they can seem very fake, and this was not. All in all it’s a really great cross genre fantasy-romance and I’d love to read more like it. As soon as you have print copies I’d love to buy a signed one.
Dawn Weast: Copy Editor/ Author/Beta Reader

I need a signed copy of Incident at Cross Point. I love it. The story is fabulous. The fae characters are fantastical but you somehow bring them down to earth and tie them into their own indigenous roots and to the traditions of indigenous Europeans and Native Americans. Very challenging, but you are making it happen. I'm quite impressed with your work.
I so love the way you spin a tale!
Aliyah Keuthen: Journalist/Activist/Beta Reader

Kindle version can be pre ordered for $2.99. The live date is June 30, 2023.

Peter Taylor-Gooby Hi There's an ebook giveaway of my novel "A Kinder City" coming up on 19th May. Further details to be posted.
What place for love in a city ruled by greed?

Sarah, spirited and caring, is on her first trip outside her village. But the city is dominated by the grim law of the market – the only relations permitted are between buyer and seller. Her gift of a wagonload of food to those who need it is a crime. David, a serious-minded police cadet who naively trusts in the law, arrests her and finds himself falling in love.

Franklin, the richest man in Market World, puts a price on everything. His giant factories spew forth road beasts – the huge machines that devastate the lands beyond the City in pursuit of yet more wealth.

How can David prove his love to Sarah? And how can they save her village and build a kinder city?

A gripping and thought-provoking eco-sci-fi novel, set in a world a little bit like ours.

Dong Ye Hello everyone!

I'd like to take a moment to introduce my science fiction novel, "Earth Parasite." I apologize if promoting it here violates any rules, but as a dedicated writer, I've poured my heart and soul into this book and released it on Kindle, only to find that it's struggling to gain visibility and attract readers. It's disheartening to see a labor of love go unnoticed without any feedback. In this digital age, Kindle provides us with a convenient platform to enjoy captivating stories anytime, anywhere. However, with the vast sea of books available, it has become increasingly challenging for lesser-known works like mine to break through and reach the readers who would truly appreciate them. While Kindle does offer marketing options, the high cost-per-click makes it unaffordable for emerging authors like myself, who are yet to generate any income from their writing.

I believe that many of you here are avid readers and literary enthusiasts, which is why I humbly request your support and assistance in sharing my story with a wider audience. If any of you know effective channels or strategies for promoting and sharing works, I would greatly appreciate your suggestions. Your help could make a world of difference to an aspiring writer like me.

Thank you all for your attention and support!

Taylor Hartley Hi everyone!

I'm Taylor Hartley, and to celebrate its entry in this year's SPFBO, my novel A Gallery for the Barbarian is FREE today and tomorrow (May 19-20). Here's the synopsis, to see if it's for you:

An untamed barbarian, his undead portraitist, and the city of magic and mirrors.

Svinheim: glittering city of the fine arts. Fleshless painter Violetto scouts the streets for his next subject, and finds unexpected inspiration in the beastly Brask of Bannavaria. Hailing from the brutal North, with his immense appetites for gold and glory, Brask is sure to become a sensation in civilized Svinheim—by brush or by axe. As two shadowy and competing cults threaten to engulf the powers that be in the Fine City, will Brask and Violetto achieve the fame and fortune they believe to be so rightfully theirs?

At once a callback to episodic, vintage sword-and-sorcery fiction and a dark, queer fairy tale, A Gallery for the Barbarian is Taylor Hartley’s debut work of fantasy and the first in a new series, THE VIOLETTO PAPERS, sure to please fans of Michael Moorcock’s Elric and Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian.
