DEPARTURES by E. J. Wenstrom
Tonight, seventeen-year-old Evalee is scheduled to die.
She’s planned her celebration for weeks, and other than leaving her sister Gracelyn behind, she’s ready. The Directorate says this is how it should be, and she trusts them, as all its citizens do. So tonight she dresses up, she has a party, and she dances. Then she goes to sleep for the last time … except, the next morning, Evalee wakes up.
Gracelyn is a model Directorate citizen with a prodigious future ahead. If she could only stop thinking about the shuffling from Evalee’s room on her departure morning. Even wondering if something went wrong is treasonous enough to ruin her. If she pulls at the thread, the entire careful life the Directorate set for her could unravel into chaos.
Swept away by rebels, Evalee must navigate a future she didn’t count on in a new, untidy world. As the Directorate’s lies are stripped away, she becomes determined to break Gracelyn free from its grasp—before Gracelyn’s search for the truth proves her to be more unruly than she’s worth to the Directorate.

CHAPTER 1
This is how I hope they remember me. Bathed in rainbow-bright lights, dotted in glitter, the tulle of my favorite dress swooshing around me as I bound through the pounding music on the dance floor. My cheeks flushed. Heart thudding. Alive.
That’s the point, after all.
Tonight is my departure party.
We’ve finally gotten past the terrible, emotional departure rituals – the look back at my life’s highlights, my speech of goodbyes. My final hours are passing too fast, but I’m relieved these rituals are behind me – I had to fill them out with fudged memories to draw out softened, saccharine sentiments, the edges sanded down. I had to stretch out my short life to fit the typical time frames. Most departure parties have to encompass a rich long life of a hundred years plus. Tonight, all I’ve got to cover is seventeen.
It’s not enough.
But what do you do?
I know what you don’t do. You don’t sulk on your last night on this planet. Not when it won’t do you any good and only devastate the few people you really care about. No chance. You take your remaining fun where you can get it. Or at least, you try not to ruin it for everyone else.
So I dance. I let the thudding bass roll over me and drown out my thoughts.
The lights of the Quad’s event center are dimmed, transforming the great room and its arched white beams into splashes of moving colors. Rainbow-bright lights drift from floor to ceiling to windows, blocking out the Quad beyond, pink fading to purple, fading to blue, fading to green. The music turns up – never more than the maximum recommended volume, of course, careful to stay within Directorate recommendations for optimal health. My guests – neighbors, former teachers, my peers from across our Quad – stand from their tables on cue, and the dance floor begins to fill. Glitter drops over us like the night mist that keeps the plant life within the Quad dome green. Everyone smiles and bobs along to the beat. I mirror them, determined to keep my own smile in place, no matter what.
My little sister Gracelyn – the one person I actually want here right now – weaves through the shuffling crowd until she finds me. She smiles too, though her eyes glisten with a hint of tears at their edges. No, don’t cry. That’s what kills me the most about all this. I can’t stand to see her hurting. I take her hand and squeeze it, pulling my smile even bigger, and twirl her around. When she turns back to me, the light is back in her eyes, even if a hint of tears still glistens in the corners. We jump and twist to the beat through the glitter raining from the ceiling, both of us determined to make the most of every minute I have left.
Too soon, curfew nears. The music turns down. The people settle down in response, and the Quad’s mayor takes the mic.
“Thank you, Evalee Henders, for the gift of your presence in this Quad,” she says, following the script of the ritual. As I take my place next to her on the stage, I look out at the event hall. Expressions have turned somber. “We have one last gift to you. May your passage be as peaceful and painless as your life.”
She hands me a small white box. I open it and look at the translucent pill every citizen takes to trigger their departure, the serum sloshing inside it. A quake of fear washes over me, and I hope no one can tell. The whole point of departure is to avoid all that, the pain and struggle of whatever death would have waited for me around the next corner. Departure isn’t the thing to be afraid of, I remind myself. Not departing is.
All the same, my heartbeat speeds up until everything starts to turn blurry. I blink hard, trying to push the panic down. Young as I am, this night will be talked about for years. The last thing I want is for something bad to be said about the way I went. I want to be remembered as strong. Brave.
I force my fear deep into my gut, nod in acknowledgment of the gift, and push it into my mouth before I can think anymore. Even as its sweetness dissolves on my tongue and the serum releases, a calming buzz quells my anxiety – the first taste of its promise to slowly pull me into a deep, everlasting sleep over the course of the night.
Hands raise in applause and everyone cheers, a final affirmation of my life. Then, the normal overhead lights switch on, and the magic of the color-bright dance floor dies. Like a spell has been lifted, my guests turn away, gathering their things and chitchatting politely as they file towards the exit.
After all, everyone else – whose lives will go on tomorrow – must get their full night of sleep to maintain optimal health and happiness.

Social satire + speculative sci-fi fans:
I’d like to introduce myself to the group members. I’ve just published my debut - weird as it gets - philosophical sci-fi novel. Below please find the blurb and a link to free (free as in 'free beer' chapters). Would love to hear some comments - if possible. Thanks in advance :)
Blurb:
10.000.002 A.D. A cantankerous scholar slipping into obscurity is out for revenge.
He time-travels to the year 2022 to stop his nemesis, Scott — a successful scientist at a competing university — from thwarting his research into the origin of a mysterious phenomenon, the Great Convergence. Shrewd and ruthless, Scott will stop at nothing to defend his tenure track. The feud quickly spins out of control and the damage to reality grows unchecked.
Caught in the crosshairs are three characters responsible for triggering the Great Convergence: an art-hating professional art critic who, unbeknownst to him, spontaneously switches between universes wreaking havoc as he goes; a talentless artist whose sculptures act as trans-universal portals; and a schizophrenic astrophysicist trying to avert the invasion of alternate versions of himself from different realities. As their paths converge, the apocalyptic event takes place and the inescapable tragedy of human existence unfolds.
A subversive philosophical science fiction and a social satire, the Great Convergence will take you out of your comfort zone, exposing the absurdity of many ethical and intellectual ideals.

The Cradle is the first book in a new epic fantasy series: The Eagre. It features a unique and vast world with its history, ancient religions, and culture; elements of dark magic and mythical creatures; strong female characters and undiscovered lands. The cast of ambiguous and interesting characters will capture your attention:
- a simple but cunning (although he seems stupid to other characters) fisherman who, due to circumstances, takes up a dangerous and unusual business
- a young but thug, an unwitting member of a medieval cruel criminal gang
- the young son of the king, facing a difficult choice between love and religious duty
- another son of the king, an experienced warrior, seeking fame
- the calculated and cynical brother of the king, fighting both rebellious vassals and crime in the capital
- son of a vassal lord whose aspirations go beyond simple lordship
- a king's daughter, a diplomat on various missions who risks her life and plays a role in the conflict to come.
Excerpts:
Such opportunity knocks but once. He’ll go to any length to provide for his family ...
He avoided the rare passers-by, drunken companies, torch flame and light, as if he was a true creature of darkness. As those rohorgools - the servants of the Goddess, whom she lowers into the world on dark nights, in order to punish and grab people, for the sake of her weddings, tortures and executions. She sows horror at the same time with obedience. Perhaps he would face a rohorgool head-on? During his turbulent life he had heard many times about people abducted into the darkness. For the most part, the rumors turned into simple murder, but some people disappeared without a trace.
That was right. Somewhere behind the vast ocean lied the Shining Empire. The legendary homeland of the Maurirtas! But why has a single ship not found it? Why was no one returning from Journey?
“The shepherds had talked about us, and you decided to sponge,” Kasar reasoned, not asked. “You wanted to rob, but you didn’t think about your death at all. Go ahead and kill him, prince, ”he suddenly suggested, looking as if evaluating Yves.
Yves looked at the victim, recalled how a couple of years ago his brother took him to the slaughterhouse; there he had to slaughter pigs and sheep under the supervision of butchers and Guluui. He put his palms on his sides and said, “Uh ... No. ”
"Do it!"
Yves felt a treacherous chill. Something would change if he obeyed ... “I don’t want to. I don’t kill unarmed people. ”
Its hordes invaded the Shining Empire. In its army, people and nonhumans, animals and monsters, things created of light and emanating from darkness.
Happy reading!

All three books in this Fantasy Trilogy are now available on Kindle, Goodreads, and Nook for $0.99 each. Details are below

In this first book, Alexio Sopholus returns home after ten years away at the Academy. When he returns, he soon finds his lands under attack by barbarians bent on domination of the kingdom. With the help of his large animal friends and others, he manages to initially fight off the invaders, but draws the suspicions and fears of his own leaders. Faced with death, destruction, and betrayal all around him, Alexio is forced to conclude that all the morality, philosophy, ethics, and behavior taught to him in school are all but useless when someone has you at the point of a sword. Then you must either fight, run, or die. Alexio wages war. It will be a war without pity, mercy, and against the laws of both gods and men. It will result in Alexio finding himself an outcast in his own land.

In the second book, Alexio and his wife still find themselves in danger from the barbarians and his own leaders. After an assassination attempt, a bold move by the barbarians put the entire kingdom in danger. Alexio and a small party of friends must travel to a foreign kingdom to ask aid from an unreliable source. Discovering an even more insidious plot against them, Alexio and a small group of mages must flee for their lives. When they return, they find their kingdom in shambles, the Brotherhood of Mages in tatters, and an imminent threat from the barbarians to sweep all of them aside. Alexio must find a way to save his kingdom, the Brotherhood of Mages, his family, and his friends before they are all consumed in the increasing maelstrom.

Two tales conclude this series. In the first, Alexio Sopholus comes up with a dangerous and desperate plan to finally end the Zilar war. He, his wife, and several loyal companions make a dangerous journey to a place where he can challenge the leader Zilar directly. After several confrontations, Alexio and his friends are faced with the full might of the Zilar. Their only hope to is make a desperate last attack against overwhelming odds against the Zilar himself and his minions. At the same time a great tragedy befalls the three kingdoms that will devastate life for years, causing untold death and destruction, and the deaths of many friends.
In the second tale, the kingdoms are again faced with a more lethal threat than even the Zilar. A renegade god and his followers invade the world causing panic and destruction. This god seeks nothing less that to displace the Olympian Gods of this world. The kingdoms, the mages, the armies, and the gods must band together to defeat this interloper or face extinction. Many will die in the conflagration. The final battle will tax the strength of both gods and men and force Alexio into making the ultimate sacrifice.

He was a shy student looking for accommodation. She was a novice witch, heir to a coven and daughter of a demon. A light-hearted tale of romance, demonic murder and travel to hell.

Hello,
I just released my debut novel on Amazon called Tipu Finds Magic. It is on offer on Amazon (free) till the 5th of September. I would really appreciate if you can check it out. Amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/Tipu-Finds-Mag...
If anyone can leave a review, that would be brilliant, but of course that's only if you find the time and if you actually enjoy reading it. Thank you for any time that you spend on my book. If you want to know a bit about it, you can find the description below:
Condemned to a life of mediocrity, Tipu is bored of everything, even his friends.
He thought there would be more going for him by the time he got to college, but it’s his senior year and there's still no sign of a life he wants. When he thinks things can't get any worse, he has a meltdown in the middle of the college café. One thing leads to another and he ends up going into a manhole with a 5 year old gnome.
Tipu Finds Magic is a coming-of-age fantasy novel in which magic of the West meets magic of the East. This novel makes an excellent read for anyone hoping to experience new worlds through the eyes of an honest and candid narrator.

Looking for feedback on this one if you're really bored or interested for some reason (thanks in advance).
Singularity Games
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09FFWQ34X/...
Pierce Drake is a corporate espionage agent. His last contract goes bad, his firm gets burned, and his colleagues end up dead.
Pierce has years of experience, bio-implanted enhancements, and a lot of skills. Despite his advantages, he fails to escape a deeper conspiracy that he wants no part of.
Singularity Games is a pre-cyberpunk thriller. The story is an action thriller that takes place in a near-future/already-present world where technology enables corporate entities to defy nation states and pull off massive heists. A world where corporate entities wage war on each other and governments struggling to keep control of it only make it worse.
This is a near-future scifi spy novel I wrote in graduate school. I did a double doctorate in a hard science and engineering discipline in the Bay Area, and currently work as an engineer, but I enjoy fictional universes more.
I'm hoping to improve and maybe get some general impressions.
Thanks for your time and attention.

Hello, all,
I am K.R. Bourgoine. a published writer of many fantasy magazine stories and books, and the creator of several board games. I’m known for writing suspenseful epic fantasy stories that keep you on the edge of your seat while also breaking your heart. My greatest achievement along the way was being able to work with Gary Gygax, the creator of “Dungeons and Dragons”, on a couple of Gord the Rogue stories.
As I ramp up to release the next books in my young adult adventure series, I wanted to share a little about the book that started it all, The First Fable. Here is a short blurb:
His father’s a war hero, unfortunately it's for the wrong side
Macal Teel is a farm boy living with his uncle in the Kingdom of Elronia. His life is upended when his kingdom comes under attack by invading troll legions. His father is a war hero, or so he thought until he is accused of betraying the Dragoon army. When Macal begins a terrifying quest, uncovering secrets from generations past and confronting loathsome creatures and boundless dangers, he is determined to save Elronia and prove his father’s innocence—before it’s too late. From author K. R. Bourgoine comes the riveting young adult fantasy collection, The Fable series, starting with Book One, The First Fable, an imaginative and emotional story woven with elements of mystery, danger, and magic.
Young Macal’s father is a revered and honored captain in the Dragoon army. A great warrior, Bertran Teel had seen many battles and fought many wars to keep the Kingdom of Elronia safe within the world of Aerlinth. Macal is proud of his war hero father and is anxiously awaiting his return to his village, along with other cavalry already arriving. But his father is not coming home, and Macal is devastated as he learns why from the soldier who readily took over Bertran’s command as Dragoon captain.
“As you can imagine,” the captain was saying, “it bodes ill for the Teel family. No longer does that name hold any honor.”
“What do you mean?” Macal had never heard such a sharp tone from Uncle Melkes.
“Your brother Bertran left the Dragoon some time ago,” informed the captain.
“What do you mean, left? He wouldn’t just leave. And if he had, he would have come home.”
Jengus’s response was icy. “We have reason to believe that Bertran Teel is betraying the army and the Kingdom of Elronia.”
It isn’t long before Macal is thrust from everything he’s ever known into a quest to save his kingdom, prove his father’s innocence, and uncover generations of dangerous secrets. As the Trolls of Marglamesh wage a devastating war against the teen’s kingdom, Macal must navigate a perilous world, more threatening and magical than the farm boy ever imagined.
Macal could see a herd of massive creatures with long, crooked noses and thick olive skin covered in boils, warts, and scars stalking through the night, pouring out of the shadows of the northwest Rotelen woods...To his horror, he recognized these foul creatures. Although he had never actually seen anything so hideous and terrifying in all his life, he had heard enough about them to know that the trolls had come.
As Macal searches for his father on his treacherous journey, he must find victory before the wretched trolls take over his kingdom forever. In the process, Macal learns about the cost of sacrifice, the value of family, and himself.
The thrilling saga of Macal and The Kingdom of Elronia continues with the second and third volumes of this fascinating fantasy series, The Second Fable and The Third Fable. Worlds collide for young adult and adult readers who will love the fast-paced adventures, the chemistry between the characters, and the interplay of fantasy, legends, magic, and danger in The Fable series. Author K. R. Bourgoine expertly weaves stories that are both timeless and unique, perfect cross-market reads for those searching for the next enduring epic fantasy series.
If you are part of a book club, I have a list of questions about the novel that I could send along to help get your book club conversation started. I would also be happy to talk with your group online or in person where possible.
Thank you for taking the time to consider The First Fable. For more information and longer descriptions, on the novel or myself, please check out the www.TheFirstFable.com
I hope all is well and let me know if you have any questions.

OPTIMAL POWER
Toronto, the near future: a city ruined by greed. Homeless citizens fill parks by the thousands, their spaces artificially heated in the winter months—their lives in the hands of a power company that has ceased all communication.
Otis Colip is one of those homeless. He had a good life once: nice house, brilliant wife, a prominent job maintaining a fleet of corporate androids. As tempers in the park flare and scavengers big and small begin squeezing his community, he must make his stand. Driven by a deep desire to return to his old life inside the biometrically locked city, he takes on a risky job—one with an all-or-nothing price tag.
PHILLIP DRIVES THE DEAD
There has never been a pandemic like this one. Threatened by a virus that can kill in hours, all but trapping them in their homes, citizens feel their humanity being stripped away.
In an effort to curb misinformation and slow the virus’s spread, the government bans all devices except a single television set in every home, issuing biometric watches that put strict limits on peoples’ time outside. Food is restricted to a single source. Disobedience is a serious crime.
Phillip Fine knows what happens to disobedient people. He’s the one who drives them to prison. He also knows their fate once they get there: to be guinea pigs in an endless search for a cure.
It’s an awful thing. Phillip would ignore it if he could—most people do. But he can’t, because his father’s in that prison, too. As long as Phillip keeps driving, Pop stays alive.

ARE YOU WILLING TO RETIRE...?
Prof David Raft is, and after a lifetime of academic and scientific achievements, he's ready to step aside as the Government's Chief Scientific Advisor. A dangerous new variant of the Coronavirus has ravaged society, and in desperation, the British Government introduced the Forced Retirement Act.
Now on his sixty-fifth birthday, David must choose whether to go out with a bang on the last day of his working life or reveal a long-buried dark secret that could spell the end of the Government's policy and shake the system to its very core. Set against the backdrop of a divided United Kingdom, Retirement Party is a short story told from David's point of view as he's plagued by his own memories and difficult choices--torn between what's best for society and the ones he loves.

What does the conglomerate owner do after his death?
Two murders and an accident happen in the same area. Who is behind it?

Authors, please read the rules for this thread (in the first post), as well as the group rules before posting anywhere!

This is a stand-alone story, so if you’re still unfamiliar with the GCS (the first book reached #4 on Amazon), it’s the perfect time to jump in.
In ‘Cryovacked’, the stakes have never been higher. Chef Hunter Jeane Oberon, with her alien pal Xstersi, become captives on an ancient starship they’re sent to explore—when it turns into a deep space death-trap. If they don’t escape in time? They’ll be slowly cooked alive over the next five hundred years! What's the mystery behind Cryovacked? You'll have to read it to find out!
Plus, it includes the bonus story ‘Rising Terror’. I spoke at length to Andy Weir, author of the Martian, about the science in this story, and also Seamus Blackley, inventor of the Xbox… AND sourdough expert (in this tale, a sourdough just might bring about the end of the universe). Seamus was kind enough to read it and consult on the details. He said it’s VERY entertaining!
And you can get it FREE Sept 14-18. So don’t miss out!

I wrote this book in Spanish several years ago, and many people have read it and I have receive excellent feedback. An Italian publisher is evaluating it to release an Italian version. Now it is available in English and it is in promotion. If you like SciFi and a bit of romance you will like it.
You may find it here in several online stores (Amazon, Indigo, B&N. etc.)

My middle grade sci-fi/time travel story is available as a giveaway and will be out on kindle in November. It's called A Most Unusual Friday Knight and it's the first in the Shawn From the Shed series.

https://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/sh...
Blurb:
History is now in the hands of two orphans, a border collie, and a depressed inventor
For as long as Johnny and Ella have known him, Shawn has been that odd but sad man who lives in the shed at the orphanage run by his iron-fisted sister. Every day, the kids watch from the windows as he walks the dog, fixes things, and takes his sister’s belittling with only a sigh.
Everything changes the night Johnny and Ella decide to investigate lights flashing from the shed. The night they discover Shawn’s time machine, which sends them all to medieval England – to a time of mighty castles, jousting tournaments, and wild animals.
But when they witness the injustice of a greedy lord and his champion knight, a simple jump to the past turns into a seemingly impossible quest to save the lives of innocent villagers – as well as their own. All complicated by Shawn’s odd behavior and terrible manners, leaving it up to Johnny and Ella to teach him how to behave properly.
With a combination of modern technology, ingenuity, and trickery, can two orphans, a dog, and a sad inventor change the course of history?

“So this is where you disappeared to,” Aiden said when he reached him. “Wow, it’s beautiful down here.”
“Yeah.”
For a moment, Aiden just took it all in, before he spotted the cooler on the other side of the river.
“How many have you caught so far?”
“Four. I want six—figure I’ll make them for supper tonight,” Raine replied.
“Oh.”
Aiden was chewing his bottom lip, like something was wrong, and he didn’t quite know how to spit it out.
“It’s okay if you don’t like fish,” Raine told him.
“It’s not that. I love fish, but Gabriel’s moms invited us over for dinner tonight so I could finally meet them,” Aiden explained, disappointment and regret rolling off him.
Ahh, so that was it. The welcome to the family meal, the one Raine wasn’t invited to because no one outside of the three of them even knew he was here.
“Hey, it’s all good; the fish are on ice. They can stay that way for another day; it won’t hurt them any. I’ll cook them tomorrow.”
Aiden shifted his weight a bit, leaning a little more on the cane. “I just hate that we’re leaving you home alone. It isn’t fair.”
“But it is my fault,” Raine explained, trying to unruffle his feathers. “Besides, I have no interest in being in a crowded room with strangers. I’d much rather be out here.”
Glancing past him, Aiden’s brow furrowed. “I don’t see a pole.”
“I don’t need one.”
“Then how…”
Raine waved his hands at him, and Aiden’s eyes went wide.
“Seriously?”
“Seriously,” Raine said. “Want to try?”
“Me?” Aiden scoffed. “I can’t even get across the river.”
“Oh, really?” Glancing behind him at the rock path, Raine was suddenly hit with an idea. “Will you trust me to get you across without falling in?”
Aiden glanced from the path to him, nibbling his lip again. “Do you really think you can?”
“No,” Raine said. “I know I can.”
“Then let’s do this,” Aiden said.
“Okay, hold out your arms.” Raine instructed, grasping on to them, helping Aiden form a frame for balance. Slowly, Raine backed onto the first rock and then the second, guiding Aiden to follow.
“Step, now step together,” Raine told him, leading him across the rocks to the bank on the other side.
“Holy shit, how can you just walk across backward and never look to see where the next stone is?”
Chuckling, Raine walked beside Aiden to the large, flat rock he’d been fishing from. “I’m a wild thing, remember. Learning the terrain backward and forward is just part of survival, especially when it’s so close to the house.”
“Exactly how much time have you been spending out here?”
Raine shrugged because time seemed to stand still when he was in the woods. “You guys have your thing in the office. I have my thing out here. Sunshine, fresh air, napping in a bed of leaves. What more could any wolf want?”
“I guess, when you put it that way, I can see the appeal.”
Raine sat, before sprawling out on his belly, leaving Aiden plenty of space beside him. “Get comfortable. Hands out. And relax.”
Settling in beside him, Aiden reached out, not quite as far as he needed to, so Raine reached over, gently correcting him.
“You know how bugs skim the surface of the water? Well, that’s what I do with my fingers, just one, and watch as the fish come by. When I see one big enough, I reach in and snag it. They’re kind of slimy and wiggle around a lot. Just keep a tight hold once you grab one.”
“Somehow, I don’t see myself actually being able to get my hands on one,” Aiden remarked.
“See, the first step is in changing the way you think. You have to stare in there and know for certain that you’re not going away empty-handed. The rest is just instinct.”
“We’ll see,” Aiden said. “I’ve never had much of an opportunity to test my hunting instincts.”
“Guess what? You do now.”
Silently, they waited, a few tiny fins swimming past. Raine could feel Aiden tense, just a little, and reached out mentally to help him keep calm.
“Every move you make can create vibrations. We might not feel them, but the fish can,” Raine said. “Your shoulders are tense. Exhale. Let your body relax until the only things you’re aware of are the rock beneath you, the wind around you, and the fish below you.”
“Told you I can’t do this.”
“And I told you that you can.”
Slowly, he sensed Aiden growing more and more relaxed beside him, one finger tracing a zigzag pattern on the water’s surface. Small silver fish swam past. This time, Aiden didn’t twitch. An undersized bass followed, before they noticed a larger shape.
“Remember, use your instincts,” Raine thought to Aiden, who reached, seconds later, trying to grasp the fish. He came up empty-handed, except for a couple scales caught beneath his nails.
“I-I touched it,” Aiden thought, excitement radiating off him.
“Yup, and next time, you’ll catch it.”
They resumed their wait, watching the activity beneath the water: little snails and mudbugs moving around among the muck and rocks.
I want to watch you catch one, Aiden thought. Glancing over at him, Raine saw Aiden watching him intently.
If you insist, Raine thought back, grinning.
Focus. Relax. There was clover nearby, wild onions too. Beneath his finger, the feel of the water cool against his skin. Every sense open, grounding him in the moment. His eyes, the fish, his hands, movement without thought. Instinct. He drew his hands from the river, holding the fish.
“That was outstanding!” Aiden declared. “You had the fish before my brain registered that there was one.”
“That’s what I meant by trusting your instincts,” Raine explained as he dealt with the fish. “Processing what you’re seeing takes time, and it can cost you your prey. React to the motion. Be one with the moment. Now I want to see you catch one.”
“I’ll do my best,” Aiden replied.
“I know you will.”

The title is “Cooper’s Adventures.” It is a prequel to my “Cooper’s Destiny” trilogy. I designed the book for elementary-aged students to “draw” them into my trilogy. Here is a synopsis:
The year is 2199 and most people live in underground cities because of the extreme weather conditions on Earth. Meet Cooper, a 12-year old boy, who has a knack for fixing things. He is bored with underground life and is looking for adventure. He hears something about freelancers, who are willing to go topside in search of treasure, and wonders if this could be his future. What adventures are beyond the shackled door? What obstacles might he face?

5.0 out of 5 stars A Christian Book Worth Reading!
Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2021
As a young Christian man who also enjoys a good superhero story, I was captivated by the story’s premise. A man is given the gift to fly by God, and how he uses it to help people along the way.
Pros: Characters with depth, as in you really could connect with them and care about them. The author has the ability to start with even the smallest detail and make it an entire plot point.
Cons: The Non-Entity has no name so his number designation is repeated every time he is referenced. Which gets really old really fast. There is a lack of dialogue that can at times slow the reader down.
Overall this was a really fun book to read! Despite the few cons, I was definitely sucked into the world, and I’m definitely ready to read the next book in the series. It’s nice to have a new Christian series to point friends to!

"Pushing Planets" is my debut sci-fi novel, available on
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09J1TW454
and
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09J1TW454
Currently listed in Kindle Unlimited!
The story is about hunting planets, or is it?
It is hard science fiction, with a twist or two that you might not expect. Let's just say it is "Sagan's Contact meets Wall Street's Gordon Gekko", in a NYC of the 23rd century.
Here is a blurb:
When she detects a new planet around Tau-Sagittarii with potential for colonization, Uma knows she has hit the jackpot. As a young astrophysicist in New York City, she is eager to leave behind her former modeling career and to demonstrate she finally turned into a legit scientist and planet hunter. Earth is ridiculously crowded, Mars terraformation failed, and the search for new options is hotter than ever.
Uma’s initial excitement becomes awe when she analyzes the data collected about her planet: Is humanity in danger? Can she trust her discovery? Can she confirm her conclusions and convince everybody else without falling into paranoia?
When Abdo, a sharp expert in agrodrone programming from the African Federation, shows up at her office in New York, Uma doesn’t know that her quest is going to take a second traumatic turn. Is it possible that she got it all wrong, and that a hidden force is pushing her destiny and playing with humanity’s chance for a new home?
Things are not what they seem in this twisted adventure through the eyes of Uma and Abdo: you will experience the New York City of the 23rd century, admire the sand dunes of Zagora in Africa, travel to Mars, and wonder about the secret hiding in the lakes of the Saturn moon Titan. All while chasing Uma’s newly detected planet in Sagittarius.

Here is a blurb:
The stars are long gone and everything is dying.
The last bastions of Light have fallen into Shadow.
After countless cycles, time itself is coming to an end.
The last Fall brought about the collapse of many advanced civilizations and an end to an era of high technology. The world is experiencing a dark age, but remnants of past glories still linger. Not all knowledge is lost and countless ancient artifacts remain, but history has turned to myth, and technology to magic.
Among the survivors of this fallen age, the heirs of the Children of the Light still dream of a time of Rebirth, the rekindling of the stars, and the rebuilding of the Realm of Light. Yet their noble houses, having long fallen under the dominion of the Chaosborn, squabble among themselves, lost in their petty games of politics, while ancient entities of power direct them as pawns.
Innumerable interests and schemes clash, as a final age of tribulations and war is about to begin.
After decades spent on building one of the most complex and detailed universes found in fiction, and the planning of an intricate tapestry of plots, the epic saga of the Song of Revelation is ready to begin.
The Song of Lost Light is a tale of war and love, of ambition and abomination, of damnation and redemption.
It is the story of the last world at the end of time.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
That's my amazon book description. The novel is around 210k words. It's a work of love, the result of several decades of universe-building and long-term planning. It's got everything from action and epic battles, to politics, romance, even perhaps a bit of horror, and of course countless mysteries. I've had more than enough time to add many long-term intertwining plots, and I delight in using a “plot within a plot” system, so all the readers who love complexity and theorycrafting will have a lot to think about… and don’t worry if you don’t, the book should still be fun on the surface level… no need to bother trying to understand what’s really going on, revelations will come along the way, meanwhile just enjoy the action!
So, if you want to experience a fully realized universe, one with eons of history behind it, detailed cultures, constructed languages, etc… look no further! This is the first book in my attempt to bring my universe to print, hopefully, one of many more to come. I fully encourage you to use amazon’s look inside the book feature to get an idea of what the book is like… I hope you will enjoy the Song of Lost Light, and the many stories still to come!

Cair-Paravel De Loulay rated it really liked it
E111517 has no name. He does have a gift though. He can fly. No, not in a plane or with wings. He can fly, though it started with a coat. Where he got his gift, he can only ascribe it to God Himself.
For a while, he thought he was the only one, but it seems there a few more. Sadly, not all are generous and helpful spirits. Soon, he realizes that he can do more than just fly. He can take powers, hear others and use electric hands like Emperor Palpatine.
His lifestyle goal is to live his life while serving others with his gift. Will he succeed on both counts?
This is a really good story and I am curious to know what happens next in the series. There are 3 in the series and this was a really cool beginning.
I received a free copy from Mr. Mac and am volunteering an honest review for the benefit of others.
