I have entire playlists dedicated to each one of my projects but I normally find artists that really fit their vibe. For one of my books, the playlist is a lot of The Neighborhood, Arctic Monkeys, and Gracie Abrams
I’m reading Powerless and ‘I love you, I’m sorry’ by Gracie abrems and ‘Mystical, Magical.’ By benson Boone really suits its vibe.
This discussion relates to a difficulty I'm having with one of my books that's already published. I'm astray of the topic, but I think it's close and I hope you'll find it interesting enough to tolerate my post. The last two books I wrote each have songs at the core, that spoke well of some aspect of the characters. One has Nina Simone's "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood". I played it several times while I was writing the book to induce more feeling in myself to fit the scene.
The other novel with songs has three. Two are by Marlene Dietrich: "Berlin, Berlin" and "Falling In Love Again". The first one is included briefly as a joke in a scene. The second one I listened to a few times while writing a couple of scenes, but doesn't drive the book very much. The third song has more impact in the story and is a particular problem for me.
The problematic third one is a Van Morrison song, "Moondance". It's sung by one of the main characters, a young woman. It works well for the story and the scene -- plus, I listened to it many times while writing. Why it's now a problem for me is that I'm working on recording myself reading the book for Amazon's Audible. While I'm told I have a nice speaking voice and have been complimented on many recordings I've done, I have a Kavalier baritone voice. I have a moderately deep voice like Dean Martin -- I can sing Sway quite well -- but with a very tight vocal range of about one octave. Van Morrison was a baritone, but he had a wider vocal range. So I'm dreading when I get to those lines in my recording.
My text doesn't have all of the lines of the song. The character sings while walking along a street. At various points, when people are passing by, she hums a line or two, resuming when she's a little bit away from others. The result is that there are about ten lines in my text. Some of them are in my range, but a few are outside it. I could just read the lines, but I want to sing them. I'm going to have to practice and get some coaching of how to sing all of the lines within one octave. Oh, the things we do for our art.

Anyways, let me see. . .
Still Life by. . . Snorri Halgrimson. (I am probably spelling that wrong. *Winces*)
Dramatic Song German Cover (Yes, I guess it actually is called that.)
Time Hans Zimmer cover by ThatCelloGuy
And Iris, by Goo Goo Dolls.
Along with a bunch of other ones. 300 or so. I like music, what can I say, 😉
