Great review, Izzah, I love the sound of her going to court to secretly seduce her husband, there be scorching tension and spicy steam in an older book. I’m normally not a fan if the story takes place at court, because of exactly how you described it being everyone out for revenge thru gossip, etc. Did you feel it ever overshadowed the romance part of the story?

I think the Queen's hysteria more than court itself had too much OW 'screen time' (page space? 😂)
If you're okay with a more sexually out there heroine, I think you could enjoy it if only for that unhinged-ness that can only be found in 'old skool' bodice rippers 😂
I keep finding the old bodice rippers not having that sexual tension build up, so I’m happy to see you mention it here. I’ll put this on the back burner and if I find it, I’ll try it!

They were! Spicy and crazy, a great combo for a bodice ripper ✨
Yeah, I didn't care for the portrayal of Queen Elizabeth I in this one either. Especially when she is written so much more accurately in Henley's other novel, A Woman of Passion, another of my faves of Henley's. Still, I do love the absolute crazysauce of this book.
