I recently published a science fiction novel about the preexistence. The book tracks Apollo as he grows to maturity and becomes a powerful warrior in his planet's battle for freedom and agency. Much of the book explores the reasons why many chose to resist agency and self-determination, opting instead to submit to power and control.
The book presents a fully developed and advanced society where Apollo and his millions of brothers and sisters have relationships, responsibilities, jobs, school, and many of the same struggles we deal with here on Earth. They do so as beings made of light and energy, composed of subatomic matter. Spirits, or, as they are called in the book, "ghosts." Despite not being physical as we are, these "ghosts" engage in brutal and painful combat, and they fight each other in a planet-wide civil war.
