Hannah I've read a few of Hiaasen's books. I've enjoyed them, for the most part. Gonna look this one up!

Hannah, I absolutely loved it. Some people say it’s too long, but I finished it in two days. It’s very topical and on the nose, but that makes it so much better if you pay attention to current affairs. I could go on forever, but I hope you enjoy it if you pick it up.

Canadian Jen An intriguing review, Bobby. Sounds like it gave you some joy!

An immense amount, Jen. So much so that I sent copies to my parents before I’d even finished.

Krystal Humor is a magical balm! Glad this one made all the stars shine! Awesome review!🖤

Dutchie I’ve never read this author, but enjoyed the series based off of the Bad Monkey books. Hopefully you got those hiccups cured… terrific review.

Tracy Greer-Hansen Books are the best! They give you exactly what you need. Fab review. And I have enjoyed Dept Q! Thanks for the recommendation. 🙌🏻

Hahaha they came back once today as I was finishing the book, but I somehow made it through that hiccup onslaught.

I never watched the series, but obviously highly recommend this book. Thanks for the kind words ❤️

Tracy, you know what, books are the BEST! It’s a cool feeling to know I will never stop being surprised by this art form.

And that is so awesome about DQ! It’s a bit of a slow burn, but the acting is excellent as are the character arcs. Very happy you’re enjoying it.

Thanks for keeping me up to date and for reminding me that books have a way of giving us what we need. ❤️

Thanks, Krystal! Humor is the best and especially when it sneaks up on you. Like that one person who never spoke as a teenager and then you hear them whisper a one liner and it’s hilarious and you become best friends (true story). ❤️

Jennifer nyc Good to know they tilt left. I’ve never read him, either, but after enjoying the series, Bad Monkey, I want to.

Oh it definitely maybe more than tilts, but it’s not as if it sings the praises of the left more so just satirizing the new right. I never saw the show, but I’m guessing you’d find this book hilarious if you like one of his adaptations. At least I hope you do if you decide to read it ;)

Tina An excellent review Bobby! I like "whacky" or "unique" stories too from time to time.

Same, Tina! It’s not a genre I seek out, but for some reason I was really intrigued by the blurb for this one. I’m so glad I picked it up because I’ve never laughed so much reading a book. And just in general with life these days I don’t laugh enough so this was quite a balm.

Cara Great review, Bobby💖!!!!!!! Bahaha, this book sounds so whacky😂, but I love that cover though!

lol thanks, Cara! I believe the shades are meant to be “wrap-around Oakleys” as they are mentioned in the book as being part of an “outfit”, if you will, worn by a certain group of people lol. I’m cracking up just thinking about it. I really hope you give it a try.

Thanks—and I recommend the series. Which of his was best for you?

message 18: by Ian (new)

Ian Laird Tremendous review. And politically up to the minute. Some years, well decades ago I went through a Hiaasen phase and found him scandalously funny. I read seven of his satires, but stopped when they started to be subject to the law of diminishing returns. The best of them for me Skin Tight, Double Whammy and Tourist Season. Now, however, his time has come again it seems, in the age of the man who makes Warren Harding look incorruptible and Andrew Johnson a beacon of tolerance.

This was my first Hiaasen. I liked it so much that I don’t know where to go next in his catalogue.

It is time to jump back in, Ian. It felt like a soothing balm for the times. Any recs on where I should go next as this was my first Hiaasen?

Thanks for the great comment!
