Hello all – I hope it's okay to share something a bit personal here.
Like many people, I've watched families fall apart over the deep political and cultural divides in America. I’ve seen how love and family can get tangled up in anger and misunderstanding, especially when people who care for each other find themselves on opposite sides of the political spectrum.
I recently wrote a book called Misunderstood: A Trump Supporter’s Guide to Family Division. It comes from my own experience with struggling with family members who see supporting Trump as incompatible with love or justice. The book isn’t a defense of Trump but is more about exploring how to hold onto relationships when the world pushes people apart, and how to approach tough conversations with grace, empathy, and a recognition of each other’s humanity.
I’m sharing it here not to debate politics, but because I think a lot of what this group talks about (community, division, transgression, and reconciliation) overlaps with what I’ve wrestled with in writing this. Even when we disagree deeply, I think there’s a shared need to figure out how to love across divides and not lose ourselves or others in the process.
There’s an ebook and a larger-print paperback version (since I know many people appreciate that for accessibility reasons).
If anyone is interested, I’d be grateful if you checked it out or shared it with someone you think might need it. This is the only book I’ve written, and my only goal is to reach people who are struggling with these family dynamics.
