I've been noticing that I'm hearing, over the speakers at the supermarket, cover versions of songs that sound almost entirely like the original, except with a bit of a club beat behind part of the chorus. Much more remix than remake.
And I've been bemoaning in my annual Best of the Year lists for the past three years that Netgalley and BookBub are offering me fewer and fewer books with original premises; it's just the same few tired ideas over and over again, and probably not well executed. Mind you, the ones with original premises are frequently not well executed either, but at least someone tried.
If only there was a way to discover the ones that don't follow the algorithm but are actually worth reading.
