message 1: by Rosh (new)

Rosh Sorry to hear about your aunt, Fiza. May her soul rest in eternal peace.

It is a good idea to read lighter books when the mind and the heart are heavy. I am glad you found the right book to help you during this time. Sending loads of hugs!

Federico DN We all need some good comic relief every once in a while, either to relieve grief or just brighten up our day. Glad hilarious Mortimer provided some respite in mourning and a generous measure of relief-healing. Wishing more happy books and days coming you way Fiza <3

Thank you Rosh for your condolences for my Aunty Rita, means a lot to me. Today was the months mind Mass & I'm sure that by today I would have been a wreck if it were not for Joan Aiken's crazy crow.

I agree with you, we must read lighter books when grieving. I've seen that many readers who read these Christian 'grief manuals' do not get the solace they require & then land up worse for wear. Hugging you back! Hope you had a blessed Sabbath! God bless! :)

Thank you so much for your loving message Federico, means a lot to me. I agree with you, books like the Mortimer series can really make grieving a more tolerable affair. I'd recommend it to anyone who is in need of some comic relief during a bereavement, it is a really soothing balm to a wounded soul. Hope all is well on your side. How's mum? I've not forgotten her while praying my Matins & while at Mass. Hope you see this message. God be with you always! :)

Elaine and Tess the Springer. I won’t be on GR for a bit. As usual your review is excellent, Fiza. I am so sorry to hear about your aunt. It is very difficult to have to carry on as if everything is normal in your life, and you look around at everyone going about their day and wonder how they are really feeling behind the mask we all wear in public.

Simon Cockshutt I am glad the book has helped. Praying for all your family following your aunt's death. It takes time to take in what has happened.

Tess, you are a gem! Thank you for your condolences for my Aunty Rita. Thank you for understanding me, that I'm actually totally cut up from within. My Aunty Rita meant the world to me & I totally agree with you, I'm going around doing my thing but I can't understand how anything will be the same ever again.

I thank that silly conceited crow Mortimer for coming to the rescue when he did & I'll never forget Joan Aiken for helping me cope with this traumatic event in my life.

Remember me in your prayers Tess or send some positive thoughts my way when you are with your favorite people or in your favorite place - I need them, especially because of the work I do. God bless you! This message of yours meant a lot to me! :)

Deacon Simon where are you & why aren't you sending me those photographs!!???!! You are a naughty boy! CHECK YOUR MAIL!

Thank you for your condolences for my Aunty Rita, if anyone read my memoirs especially 'Scenes of a Reclusive Writer & Reader of Mumbai' they would know what this woman meant to me. I loved her to bits & it hurts me to have seen her die. Pray for me Deacon Simon & do so especially when you are contemplating on the Holy Bible. I need those prayers as you have rightly gauged.

God bless you, your message means a lot to me! :)

Simon Cockshutt I am duly chastised! Praying for you dear friend. I am going to the cinema at the weekend - the film is set in Mumbai. Is that your home town/city?

Yes it is, which movie is it? If it is good & educational in a way for high school kids then I'll tell my kiddies (students) to watch it. THANK GOD you've AT LAST seen my message! Cheers - my fifth cup of coffee is here. :)

Thank you for your prayers and concern Fiza! Fortunately she's been walking on her own for many months now. Not very steadily sadly but good enough to do it on her own, with a cane and without help. I still help her with as many chores as I can but she's been doing mostly good now :). Keep up the good spirit Fiza, all the best and many blessings for you too <3

I'm so glad to hear that your mum is able to walk with the cane & to do some of her regular chores, you are a wonderful caregiver Federico. And more importantly, you are an amazing son, hope you know that! She will remain in my prayers at Mass & at Matins.

I'll send you & mum some positive thoughts throughout this month & keep YOU especially in mind while praying the Bible. Caregivers need a lot of prayers too, sometimes more than the ailing. Don't I know that now!

I'm doing good, but I do so miss my Aunty Rita. She meant a lot to me, more than a whole cosmos worth of books. There are two categories of people in my family, those that gave me birth & those that gave me life - my Aunty Rita fell in the latter category.

I'll even attend Lauds this morning & I'll pray for you & your mum - I tend to mooch around in the Church graveyard in the early hours of the morning, giving my parish priest & the other assistant priests & deacons the creeps. They freak out as I emerge from the polluted thick fog or smog which hangs over the whole city of Mumbai (& especially over our graveyard) with a pale dead pan expression on my face & lilies in my hands!

Cheers to you, my 6th cup of coffee is on my table! :)

Utkarsh This is such a heartfelt and lively review! It’s wonderful how books like Joan Aiken’s Mortimer series can bring laughter and comfort during tough times. Your humor and vivid descriptions make me want to read the series too. Thank you for sharing this delightful recommendation!

Hi Utkarsh! Thanks for stopping by & leaving a wonderful message for me! Thanks you for reading my review & appreciating it - you should read this series & two books containing many of the Mortimer stories are easily available in India on Amazon. Check my TBR shelf & see the ridiculous prices for them.

If you are a Mumbai boy then you'll get them even cheaper on the roadside bookstalls of Fort Area. I agree with you, that conceited crow Mortimer gave me a lot to laugh about when there was nothing to laugh about - God bless Joan Aiken, his creator!

You remind me so much of my student Joshua Levi who is a doctor now & is studying to be a general surgeon - you both look so much alike! Joshua will be 25 years old & he too like you is a voracious reader. Drop by more often, love to see you here. Will subscribe to your YouTube channel too, I love Bookish channels with great content! Have an amazing late evening Utkarsh! :)

Hi Linda! Thanks for stopping by & leaving a message. Thank you for the condolences, this means a lot to me. I agree with you, this book helped me greatly in managing the loss of my Aunty Rita. But grieving is a slow going process, the unquenchable sorrow comes at the most uncertain of times. Thankfully, there are plenty of great books out there to drown one's sorrows in. Happy Reading to you too Linda! Have an amazing day ahead! :)
