I read her novel STATE OF WONDER. I made it all the way through, but never really enjoyed it. She made a habit of making us read five or six times about the same damned dream the heroine had. I got the point of the dream--you're lost in a crowd and you miss your dad--the first time. Move on. Don't belabor the point, especially since it had little or nothing to do with the rest of the novel. Patchett writes beautifully, no doubt, but a little too preciously for me.
