Sloane and Serena are separate characters. In the intro to Nightmare (and at the end of Guarded by the Kraken) there was a side story where Royce and Omara (a siren, from Kraken) hooked up, 18 years ago, and had Serena together (who appears in the present, now.)
Sloane is not in this book at all, I just thought it'd be a blast to bring Nia'n'an back, plus Mina and Sylas needed the help of a really tough monster.
Nia'n'an would never EVER cheat on Sloane, EVER -- and Sloane's dad continues to be the billionaire Alex Marlow, whose somewhat evil schemes played a big role in Guarded by the Kraken.
Royce is the head of my branch of the MSA. He and Marlow are not the same, either.
