Brennen Arkins Hi, I am new to the group and I hope I am not posting a covered topic. If so just please direct me to that thread. Thanks!

I am in search of awesome YA sci-fi/fantasy with a female protagonist/hero.

Preferably NOT dystopian or heavy on wizards and dragons. Unless there is something so good that you believe it transcends the genre. Then I'd love to at least hear about it.

Thank you!

Laura In the middle of making the list I forgot about the YA part. Although it is great, the Kate Daniels series is not YA. I am sorry about that. The other books I have seen classified as YA. Hope this helps.

Maxine The Lunar Chronicles (Cinder, Cress, Scarlet, Winter), which is a YA sci-fi series that draws inspiration from classic European fairy tales.

The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow, which is a sci-fi with fantasy elements that also doubles as historical fiction.

Erica Sabriel by Garth Nix.

It follows 17 year old Sabriel as she travels home to the old kingdom to find her father. The new kingdom has technology, the old kingdom has magic.
It’s the start to a series but it works fine as a stand alone too.

Lynne Stringer Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi. This one might be called dsytopian to some extent, but I don't think it truly is. Under the Never Sky (Under the Never Sky, #1) by Veronica Rossi

Renegades by Marissa Meyer. Renegades (Renegades, #1) by Marissa Meyer

Dissonance by Erica O'Rourke Dissonance (Dissonance, #1) by Erica O'Rourke

Signal Erased by Adele Jones. With this one, it helps if you've at least read her previous book, Immortal Mistake, but that has a male protagonist. Signal Erased by Adele Jones

The Shadowfell trilogy or anything by Juliet Marillier Shadowfell (Shadowfell, #1) by Juliet Marillier

You could also try a couple of my books, like The Heir (Verindon #1) The Heir (Verindon, #1) by Lynne Stringer

Or my latest book, Keeper of the Archives. Keeper of the Archives by Lynne Stringer
