Sabrina Damn not 2 stars lol the hype wasn’t real it seems. I hope your next read is better 💗

message 2: by Mbhabibti (new)

Mbhabibti @Sabrina If you are in the mood for a romantic fantasy, I highly recommend reading Spark of the Everflame instead. It's also free on KU and has many similarities (but it's 10x better!) 😍

message 3: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina Poor writing and editing in a fantasy can definitely be off putting, so I see why the ending may have saved it but barely. TikTok can’t always be trusted 🥲 and your feelings about it are valid. Hopefully the next book in the series is better 🤞🏼but I have heard about that series and have thought about checking it out! Glad to know you recommend that ☺️

Mbhabibti @Sabrina I'll admit to judging books more harshly when I see everyone on BookTok discussing them because the expectations are higher. But in my humble opinion, Spark of the Everflame is worth the hype 🥰

Maeghan 🦋 Aww sorry this wasn’t good ml!!💗

message 6: by Mbhabibti (new)

Mbhabibti @Maeghan it's okay, on to the next book! ❤️

message 7: by Jem (new)

Jem It's getting to a point where I don't want to read anything that is being hyped on Booktok, because they end up so disappointing. Poorly executed tropes & cringy writing most of the time. Sorry this wasn't a good read for you!

message 8: by Mbhabibti (new)

Mbhabibti @Jem Using popular trope buzzwords is now just a marketing tactic to convince people to pick up these books - and it's working! But oftentimes the tropes aren't actually in the book 😭

I typically use romantic fantasies as palate cleansers between heavier high fantasy reads, but the genre has become so copy-and-paste recently that I'm starting to expand to literary fiction and sci-fi. I'll think of it as a positive since it's forcing me to become a more well-rounded reader 😅

message 9: by SK (new)

SK I agree tbh

message 10: by Mbhabibti (last edited Jul 20, 2024 09:41PM) (new)

Mbhabibti @SK I saw your updates when you were reading about his name, but honestly I was more thrown off by her being called OSHA the entire time 🤣 because there was some discussion about their "real names" I'm wondering if the author is going to call him something else in the future.

I probably won't be reading the second book though so you'll have to let me know about that lol

Yeah, I think I am gonna start towards more high fantasies for a bit. As much as I want to devour romantasy, I'm starting to get burned out by bad recs. I've seen your reviews for Red Rising, which I've had on my shelf for a while. Might be time to start!

message 12: by Mbhabibti (new)

Mbhabibti @Jem Red Rising is very different than our romantasies, but as you may have noticed, I can't shut up about it. I hope you enjoy as much I did!

message 13: by Marizette (new)

Marizette G Fully agree, their nicknames were atrocious. I could not stop laughing at him getting mad at her for her unsafe work practices (almost sticking her finger in a hot crucible) while calling her “little OSHA”

message 14: by Mbhabibti (new)

Mbhabibti @Marizette the irony! Glad I'm not the only one who was distracted by it 😅

⋆⁺₊⋆Luna☾Lore⋆⁺₊⋆ I agree with literally every part of this

message 16: by Mbhabibti (new)

Mbhabibti @LunaLore I've just seen they are planning a tv adaptation as well, maybe it will be better than the book? 👀

fadheela ♡ (ongoing ME war hiatus) lmao, now I never to read this! hope your next read is much better babe!🥺💙

message 18: by Mbhabibti (last edited Dec 05, 2024 03:06PM) (new)

Mbhabibti @Fadheela Super overhyped unfortunately! The 4.45 rating is crazy 😭

message 19: by Ashley Taylor (new)

Ashley Taylor yes i’m struggling at 27% and want to put it down. there’s no depth to me especially being 150 pages in. i’m bored

message 20: by Mbhabibti (new)

Mbhabibti @Ashley Taylor It's really not worth the read in my opinion. I saw Spark of the Everflame on your TBR and recommend trying that instead!

message 21: by Jaclyn (new)

Jaclyn Smith Carrion is defined as “the decaying flesh of dead animals”. Couldn’t move past that one along with OSHA 😂

message 22: by Mbhabibti (new)

Mbhabibti @Jaclyn omg true! So many awkward character names.

message 23: by Coras (new)

Coras Book love I'm struggling already at 7 % hahaha. And after being disappointed in when the moon rises wich I did finish I think I'm done

message 24: by Mbhabibti (new)

Mbhabibti @Coras Didn't care for When the Moon Hatched either but I think this one was even worse 😭

message 25: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Zhi Whenever I read her nickname I swear this was the OSHA I was thinking about too 🤣🤣

message 26: by Mbhabibti (new)

Mbhabibti @Jennifer glad it wasn't just me!

message 27: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte Lee I wish I’d seen your review before starting, I’ve managed to get to 16% and the grammar is driving me insane it’s my first ever dnf!

message 28: by Mbhabibti (new)

Mbhabibti @Charlotte good for you for stopping when you wanted to instead of torturing yourself like I did! find a better book to enjoy instead ❤️
