Damn not 2 stars lol the hype wasn’t real it seems. I hope your next read is better 💗
@Sabrina If you are in the mood for a romantic fantasy, I highly recommend reading Spark of the Everflame instead. It's also free on KU and has many similarities (but it's 10x better!) 😍
Poor writing and editing in a fantasy can definitely be off putting, so I see why the ending may have saved it but barely. TikTok can’t always be trusted 🥲 and your feelings about it are valid. Hopefully the next book in the series is better 🤞🏼but I have heard about that series and have thought about checking it out! Glad to know you recommend that ☺️
@Sabrina I'll admit to judging books more harshly when I see everyone on BookTok discussing them because the expectations are higher. But in my humble opinion, Spark of the Everflame is worth the hype 🥰
It's getting to a point where I don't want to read anything that is being hyped on Booktok, because they end up so disappointing. Poorly executed tropes & cringy writing most of the time. Sorry this wasn't a good read for you!
@Jem Using popular trope buzzwords is now just a marketing tactic to convince people to pick up these books - and it's working! But oftentimes the tropes aren't actually in the book 😭
I typically use romantic fantasies as palate cleansers between heavier high fantasy reads, but the genre has become so copy-and-paste recently that I'm starting to expand to literary fiction and sci-fi. I'll think of it as a positive since it's forcing me to become a more well-rounded reader 😅
@SK I saw your updates when you were reading about his name, but honestly I was more thrown off by her being called OSHA the entire time 🤣 because there was some discussion about their "real names" I'm wondering if the author is going to call him something else in the future.
I probably won't be reading the second book though so you'll have to let me know about that lol

Yeah, I think I am gonna start towards more high fantasies for a bit. As much as I want to devour romantasy, I'm starting to get burned out by bad recs. I've seen your reviews for Red Rising, which I've had on my shelf for a while. Might be time to start!
@Jem Red Rising is very different than our romantasies, but as you may have noticed, I can't shut up about it. I hope you enjoy as much I did!
Fully agree, their nicknames were atrocious. I could not stop laughing at him getting mad at her for her unsafe work practices (almost sticking her finger in a hot crucible) while calling her “little OSHA”
@LunaLore I've just seen they are planning a tv adaptation as well, maybe it will be better than the book? 👀
yes i’m struggling at 27% and want to put it down. there’s no depth to me especially being 150 pages in. i’m bored
@Ashley Taylor It's really not worth the read in my opinion. I saw Spark of the Everflame on your TBR and recommend trying that instead!
Carrion is defined as “the decaying flesh of dead animals”. Couldn’t move past that one along with OSHA 😂
I'm struggling already at 7 % hahaha. And after being disappointed in when the moon rises wich I did finish I think I'm done
I wish I’d seen your review before starting, I’ve managed to get to 16% and the grammar is driving me insane it’s my first ever dnf!
