this made me giggle
The final battle disappointment is real. the A Touch of Darkness series was that for me with the final book :(
I loved this series. And while the premise of the story in this fourth book I had no objection to, the way it was written lacked tension and build up and excitement. Also (spoilers!!) why wouldn’t her sister tell her what she knew about the necklace when they first met?! There’s literally no justification given for that. I still love this author and will read her future books, but this one was underwhelming.
You're not alone. I felt the same way about the recycled intimate scenes, including the dialogue. Literally every little detail that was built over the previous books was glossed over in a sentence or a paragraph. I also dislike when an epilogue is like, "and this happened to this character and this to that one and this..." Like a catalogue. Knowing there is another trilogy starting on this world coming out in March that I think follows Wren, I'm making a hopeful assumption that she intentionally wrote it this way and it's going to address some of the issues in the next series
I’m a little over halfway right now and I’m feeling the exact same way… it feels so so rushed it’s insane
Completely agree. Book 1 was soooo good and this ending was just too neatly packaged. Needed more drama or something to keep up the pace.
I have to agree with you - I skipped all of the spicy parts because not only they felt the same over and over again, but they felt like they were just thrown there. Battle was underwhelming, Anya’s death was plain stupid… and not really saying anything about Wren and Torj’s relationship just to write more books is just bleh.
I couldn't put into words my disappointment but you have somehow read my mind! The chemistry was so boring and I skipped the spice the whole way through due to the repetitiveness. It was a really disappointing end to an otherwise pretty great series. It felt like the author couldn't wait to get rid of it the book and was over the characters.
10000%
I’m 48% into the book now and struggling. I’ve been trying to finish it for over a month now and just can’t get into it.
Oh nooo. 😭 heavily disagree… I’m shocked at this review tbh. But ITS FINE. I’m glad you loved the rest of the series! I thought this was the perfect ending to the series. It matched the other books and my jaw dropped multiple times. The only thing I’m complaining about is the very end…. But it was still fitting! 😂
really appreciate this review, LOVED book 1, book 2 wasn't hitting so I decided to DNF and so glad after reading your review.
So underwhelming. I feel like pacing was off. We get the Hail Mary from Audra and that’s not enough but lols jokes we’re all good with what we had after all. Furies save us. I’m writing a book atm and this is the series that made me decide I’m not going to attempt spice because I definitely think it killed their relationship. Just came all about the D
Your review hit the nail on the head. I couldn’t believe this was the same author. It felt rushed, had continuity issues and some parts felt sooooo randomly placed I was confused. Only thing I liked was the last handful of pages….sooo disappointed…
I'm so glad someone else feels this way. This book, and frankly most of book 3 was just super disappointing. The recycled smut was a killer. My husband watches me read in the evening over my shoulder when we're in bed and he says he feels like I skipped 1/3 of the book. Which isn't wrong.
I too love the taste of nothing. Lol I also felt their chemistry was non existent in this book and felt forced. The spice scenes were boring and too many for no reason other than filler. I did like torj and wrens chemistry though. The actual ending was extremely underwhelming and flat. Idk kinda sad cuz I loved the other books I finished them so quick and this one took me a couple weeks to finish.
I felt like it was war planning, sex scene, drinking at the wild hare, war planning, sex scene, Are Torj and Wren going to get together?, war planning, sex scene… repeat.
