Wonderful review, Diane. I have to add this of course, especially as you referenced Persephone books.
You will both love this. So Persephone -like in subject matter, and of course, so well written. I'll have to read more by her.
Great review , Diane . Sounds like one of those books about ordinary people whose stories are extraordinary.
I love stories like this. When you said this was about the author’s grandmother it reminded me of Nancy Turner’s These is My Words which is a favorite. I love stories about real people- often more so than about real people who were considered special.
A new to me Australian author, as well. Thank you for the introduction.
"just one among millions of women doing the same thing we all do: making the best of what we've been handed."
I think that's exactly what makes so many individuals special.
Lori, I think we can all relate more to "no one special" than to more famous ones. I believe you would love this.
Karen and Jennifer, thank you. Glad you already have a copy, Jen, I believe it's been nominated for the Women's Prize and the Orange Prize as well.
I have a couple of books by this author, but not this one. Need to jump on board with Grenville. I enjoyed your review, Diane, and will keep my eyes out for the book.
Wyndy, I certainly think Dolly's life would resonate with you like it did with me. Which of her books do you have?
