I'm going to try and read it when I'm in the right mood for it. Now is not the right time. I tried, but ended up abandoning it--at least for now. But it remains on my "waiting" shelf. Your excellent review gave me some hope that I may have success the next time.
Maybe it isn't you. Maybe it's the book. I just tried to read an excerpt - "tried" is the operative word. The writing thuds. Flat. Monotone. And, the character gives us nothing to care about her. I find myself wondering if so many contemporary characters are flat because so many people are spending most of their time on the internet. That world only engages our visual and auditory senses. And, here I am, writing and posting this comment.
